UntitledA capital city–and one of the most populated in its country–Mumbai lies on the west coast of India. Home to an enormous number of millionaires and billionaires, it’s safe to say this is a city of high finance, glamour, and luxury. This is also a city that loves its technology, and will show thousands in attendance at MecklerMedia’s first Inside 3D Printing Conference & Expo in Mumbai on December 3rd and 4th.

First though, in celebration of this event in Mumbai, there is also an exciting challenge for all citizens of India to join in as the Inside 3D Printing Design Challenge powered by Divide By Zero Technologies is launched, offering the opportunity for Indian designers to win not only glory and recognition, but also 3D printers.
You’ll need to enter by October 29th, and send your .stl file in with an explanation selling the judges on why yours in particular is a great original work. Keep in mind that the model must be sound mechanically as well as realistic and achievable.

Rules & Regulations

Entry procedures

  • Eligibility: Open for all individuals in India with each individual allowed to submit a maximum of one entry.
  • Entries must include an .stl file that can be exported from most 3D CAD software packages. This is the only file type that will be accepted, with any entries not including an .stl being considered ineligible.
  • Design files must be no larger than 200 x 200 x 200 mm. If your design is larger, please scale it down before submitting.
  • Minimum wall thickness of the design should be 2mm all over; designs with thicknesses less than that will be disqualified.
  • Your design can be assembled from two or more parts. Model assemblies should be saved as individual .stl files, as well as one complete assembled .stl. Please provide instructions on how to assemble the final part if needed.
  • Any entry that could be used as a weapon, or is a replica of a weapon, will be considered ineligible for the contest.
  • Each entry must contain an .stl file along with a completed online submission form. The description of your original design should include a problem statement, of up to 200 words, a statement as to whether there is a ready solution available in the market, up to 200 words, and an answer as to why your design is different if indeed there is already a plausible solution (again, 200 words or less).
  • Description of recommended design solution (500 words or less, and you may use diagrams/photographs as well).
