Do you like to draw? If so, Steffan Poulsen wants to usher you into his new artistic dimension, offering a lighthearted way to create art.

While drawing on paper can be challenging enough, Poulsen acknowledges that drawing in 3D can truly be difficult.header For the past two years, Poulsen has been developing a way to make drawing easier for the digital artistwho wants to explore 3D. Shirking the traditional pencil and paper route, Poulsen wants the artist to have fun exploring something new and inspirational—that still feels natural. And face it folks, working digitally and in 3D really is the wave of the future. Poulsen’s ‘Draw in 3d‘ app is a great way to test the waters.

Poulsen’s app is meant for those interested in drawing, doodling, and sharing their work with 3D printing.

“’Draw in 3d’ is in essence, a simple unique drawing app that allows you to rotate around your drawing in 3D space, draw from new angles – and even draw while the camera is spinning. It’s playful, light and easy,” Steffan Poulsen told 3DPrint.com.

draw 1With the ‘Draw in 3d’ app, you simply drag your finger across the screen to begin drawing in 3D. Because you can feel what you are doing, the whole process is intuitive and comfortable. Poulsen is not really aiming at the professional level with his app, but more for ‘the average joe’ who enjoys drawing.

“Just like taking an idea and jotting it down on paper, ‘Draw in 3d’ aims to do the same for 3D objects – and instead of having it on paper, you get the opportunities that come with the digital 3D world. Suddenly it’s shareable in full 3D, viewable in any web browser, or printable on a 3D printer.”

draw 2The app allows you to:

  • Enjoy 50 percent more dimensions than regular drawing apps.
  • Draw while spinning for a very unique result.
  • Share your drawings in full 3D.
  • 3D print your drawings.

“It’s a fun feeling having a thought about a cup design, and making a quick sketch of it in less than a minute — then sipping coffee from it hours later after printing it,” explains Poulsen.

flowers‘Draw in 3d’ allows you to use a 3D viewer URL so that you can upload your work online and share the link with others. Poulsen is also passionate about 3D printing and he wants to pass that interest on and introduce it to others. With the app, you can export your drawing as an .stl file and import it into the 3D printing software of your choice.  ‘Draw in 3d’ is also fully compatible with almost all 3D applications.  The app is currently available on iOS.
