id1As soon as a new market emerges with a growth trajectory like that of the 3D printing space, entrepreneurs begin considering ways in which they can benefit via an entrance into that market. When the internet first began to emerge in the mid to late 90’s, billions of dollars were invested in attempts by businesses and entrepreneurs to be the first ones to market. While many of these earlier adopters did succeed, or ended up getting bought out by larger corporations, there were also many failures. It’s not easy getting the timing of an entrance into a particular market correct. Enter too soon, and the demand may not be there; enter too late and the market may already be over saturated.

The 3D printing space is at a point now which may be ripe for the picking. One Australian business, called IdenticalYou, hopes that others feel this way as well. They are seeking franchisees for their 3D scanning booths. The Melbourne based company, founded in 2013, is seeking franchisees throughout Australia, as well as in other countries, to sign 5-year franchising agreements.

According to IdenticalYou’s franchise listing, the minimum starting capital for a possible franchisee is 179,000 AUD + GST (goods and service taxes). As for the expected annual income of one franchise, the company has issued the following estimates:

  • Expected Income Year One 200,000++ AUD
  • Expected Income Year Two 400,000++ AUDid3
  • Expected Income Year Three 600,000++ AUD

Certainly 3D printed selfies are very popular where they are being offered. Whether this popularity will wane as the technology becomes commonplace is yet to be seen. The IdenticalYou portable scanning booth, however, is quite impressive. The proprietary technology is able to take 360 degree scans of individuals within a mere tenth of a second, and then print the scans out on a high quality 3D printer.

According to the company, these booths would be ideal for shopping malls, airports, weddings, sports stadiums, shows and even schools. As with most franchises, IdenticalYou will offer their partners 24/7 tech support, as well as training and marketing assistance to get them off the ground.

The initial investment for franchises is estimated to be between 179,000 – 500,000 AUD, which is a good deal of money for a mobile business like this.  Those who are interested in possibly becoming an IdenticalYou franchisee may request additional information here.

Is this a business venture you would consider? What do you think the future holds for portable 3D scanning/printing booths? Discuss in the IdenticalYou forum thread on 3DPB.com.
