You may have heard recently about the Robohand 3D printer, a project developed by House4Hack, a hackerspace community also responsible for nurturing the RepTap Morgan during it’s development process. Robohand was responsible for 3D printing out cheap parts for prosthetic limbs for children, particularly on the African Continent. It gained much publicity back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, for it’s work in helping children in war torn Sudan recover from often times the debilitating loss of their arms and hands.
Today, the same people behind that awesome project, announced that on February 15th 2014, a new 3D printer called the Robo-Beast will be unveiled to the public. Little detail has been released about the printer. All we know at this stage is that it will be a rugged, “ultra robust,” 3D printer capable of standing up to Africa’s harshest environments. As those involved in 3D printing are well aware of, the process of printing out any object is a delicate one. A slight movement in any direction of the printer can easily cause mass chaos within the printing process.
“We wanted to start producing a super-robust 3D printer that could be used wherever RoboHands need to be produced,” says House4Hack founder Schalk Heunis, “Something that doesn’t have to be recalibrated and is tough enough to survive long trips fully assembled.”
The announcement will occur in Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa at 10 Am local time. You can register for the event and get more details about the location, which is free, at the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/robobeast-launch-sponsored-by-house4hack-tickets-10413355627
