Stratasys has been getting all the headlines as of late, within the 3D printing industry. Last week, they announced their amazing Objet500 Connex3, multiple material 3D printer, and just yesterday we saw Bentley Motors show the world an actual application of that printer within their manufacturing facilities.

super-bowl-trophy-close-upToday, Stratasys printed out a replica of the trophy that will be given to the winner of today’s big game, Super Bowl XLVIII, in New Jersey. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is probably one of the most recognizable trophies in all of sports. It is produced every year from 100% sterling silver by Tiffany & Co. That’s a lot of silver considering, the trophy, which depicts a football in a kicking position, stands 22 inches tall, and  exactly weighs 7 pounds. Stratasys released the following statement about there latest 3D print,

“In honor of this event, we’ve 3D printed our own version of the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Just like the original, it’s a football sitting atop a three-sided concave stand.”

Clearly, this is a way for the company to continue to get viral publicity from the media.  Combine the biggest sporting event in the world with the most exciting technology in the world, and what do you get?  Stratasys’ trophy is not made of silver, but was painted silver. The detail of the replica is quite intricate, which it should be, considering they printed it using one of their top printers, the Objet Eden500V. The material used for the printing was what Stratasys classifies as rigid opaque Verogray. If you would like to purchase the machine so that super-bowl-trophyyou too can have a replica Vince Lombardi trophy on your mantel at your next Super Bowl party, start saving. The printer costs approximately $250,000.
