XYZprinting Inc. now offers highly competitive print-for-pay solutions from its California offices for customers looking for one to 1,000 selective laser sintering (SLS) PA-12 nylon parts.

When global industrial engineering firm Leardon Solutions needed a reliable high-quality prototype of its automatic card shufflers, they chose XYZprinting over the competition to deliver quality parts.

“The robustness, speed of print, and the accuracy of the parts were key to the selection of XYZprinting,” says Murray Learmonth, Leardon Solutions’ vice president of engineering. Previous versions of printed parts produced from other brands lacked precision and strength, and hampered design validation, he says.

Leardon Solutions, a multinational corporation that provides end-to-end product development in industrial design, engineering, prototyping, procurement, and manufacturing, was ready to take their prototypes to the next level with innovative 3D technology.

Durable Moving Prototype Designed to Impress

Leardon Solutions’ final prototypes of its automatic card shufflers—the kind used in casinos and card rooms—had to have stability and exactness to demonstrate their value. SLA (also known as stereolithography or resin printing) wasn’t an option because of concerns the parts could be too brittle for this type of moving-part prototype and wouldn’t be precise enough to perform well.

Leardon Solutions needed a better option, one that not only offered high accuracy, but also durable mechanical properties to demonstrate the speed of the machine’s paper card moving platforms.

SLS Tech Outshines Machined Options

XYZprinting’s selective laser sintering (SLS) technology and PA-12 nylon parts promised superior print characteristics and accuracy compared to other brands on the market. XYZprinting’s high-performance MfgPro230 xS 3D printer unit delivers parts 230 x 230 x 230 mm and smaller, and is the perfect solution for small companies and individuals looking for more affordable print solutions.

Using its MfgPro230 xS unit, XYZprinting delivered an exact and durable card shuffling machine, featuring moving parts, without the need for a machined prototype.

In addition to the quality of XYZprinting’s solution, its SLS parts tremendously reduced the build-test-fix cycle and overall product line lead time. The parts produced by XYZprinting’s MfgPro230 xS are designed for direct plastic injection molding, which demonstrates the implementation of the perfect technology solution in the design validation process.

A 3D Solution for the Future

“Now that we have proven the process and tested the parts extensively, the use of XYZprinting’s SLS solution will be integrated into our product development processes and will help us shorten lead times for design validation,” says Learmonth.

XYZprinting Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of New Kinpo Group, one of the world’s largest original design manufacturing (ODM) companies. Rely on their expertise to help your company with your first prototype or your millionth unit of finished goods.
