We all love 3D printing contests, don’t we? For the most part, contests that we have seen over the last several months have relied on an entrant’s designing capabilities. This has left many of us on the sidelines like myself who has absolutely no design talent at all. With that said, today RadioShack has launched a 12 hour contest which caters to pretty much anyone out there within the United States.

Between the hours of 9AM and 9PM EST today, August 12th, RadioShack will be 3D printing an object, and providing image clues throughout the day as the print progresses. These clues will be posted publicly, and those who guess correctly what the object will be once completed, will be entered into a random drawing for a $50 gift card, as well as the object which is being printed out.

Hint #1

The way that RadioShack’s contest works is quite simple. Users can simply follow the company on Twitter, or just pay attention to their Twitter feed or blog posts. Throughout the day they will provide additional hints by way of an image of the object being printed. If you think you know what the object is going to end up being, simply make your own Tweet with your guess, and the hashtag #RS3DPrint.

Here are a few guidelines for participation:

  • Only US residents may take part.
  • Your guess should be at least ‘mostly right’ to qualify for the drawing.
  • Vulgar suggestions will be automatically disqualified.
  • If you’ve won something in the last month from RadioShack, please sit on your hands and let someone else have a chance.

RadioShack will randomly select a winner out of the individuals who had guessed the object correctly. They will contact the randomly selected individual within a week, and once confirmed, release the identity of the the lucky winner publicly.

Certainly this is an innovative advertising method for the company, one which perhaps we will see being used by others in the future. As for the prize, $50 isn’t a heck of a lot considering you may be competing against hundreds or thousands of individuals, however, it’s still a fun way to waste some time.

Feel free to post your guesses, or let us now if you guessed correctly in the RadioShack contest forum thread on 3DPB.com.
