Paris is often known as the City of Love. It’s a popular honeymoon destination, prone to making romantics sigh and dreamily say things in French. But romance takes many forms, some perhaps a bit less misty-eyed. French company SexShop3D, which was launched in August of last year, has recently added the Eiffel Tower to its line of 3D printable sex toys. It’s the latest in a series of cheery designs that include a fire hydrant, a mustache, and even a bizarre-looking snail. Considering the shape of the Eiffel Tower, it’s a bit surprising that it wasn’t one of the first items in the Paris-based company’s inventory of products.
The online marketplace became popular for being the first sex toy manufacturer to sell its products as printable files rather than premade items. The customer decides on the product he or she wants, customizes it for size and color, and then purchases the file, which is streamed directly to his or her printer. The customer then prints the product in the comfort and privacy of his or her own home, and thus gets to avoid the knowing smirk of the UPS man. This should be a relief to anyone purchasing the brand new, hot pink Eiffel Tower dildo, which is anything but subtle or discreet.
The tower, which also somewhat resembles a rocket, is 117 x 90 x 190 mm and costs a mere $5.00 for the file to be streamed to your printer. A discount is also offered at checkout if you share the item on social media, although that seems to somewhat negate the whole privacy effect that the site has built itself on.
This particular design is the creation of SexShop3D founder Thomas Sancelot, but the site has also opened itself up to a multitude of designers who sell their designs from their own online shops, like a sexy, sexy Shapeways. Earlier this year the company partnered with content streaming service Authentise to securely stream the files directly to the 3D printer of the buyer rather than offering them for download, which goes a long way towards preventing piracy. Because while everyone loves a sexy pirate, it’s difficult to make money in an online marketplace if your designs can be easily downloaded and sold elsewhere.
The company has also released a series of instructional videos on how to 3D print your own sex toys from silicone, amid concerns about the safety of the plastic filaments being used for such intimate items. Regardless of your feelings on the industry in general, SexShop3D has clearly covered all the bases and are showing themselves to be a reliable and well-regulated source for adults looking for something, well, a bit different to create with their 3D printers.
