gege.smallThe Q is a 3D printer with all the cool factor you could possibly want — including the price tag. Featuring aesthetics and quality, along with affordability, the creators of the Q promise you ease.

While many individuals these days are interested in jumping into 3D printing, there is the consideration of the learning curve, which some don’t learn about until the equipment is in front of their quizzical faces. The biggest learning curve can be in the design software, which is frustrating when you or a younger person are ready to dive right in with a design or concept that you want to see come to fruition quickly. 3D design software can also sometimes be quite costly.

With the purchase of a Q 3D printer, you receive a complete system — a one-stop-shop — so that you don’t have to worry about downloading other objects for 3D printing if that’s not what you’re after. The design program that comes with it, Eureka, is touted to have a learning curve so nonexistent that if you can manipulate modeling clay — you’ve got this. So, inviting everyone to jump in and check out the Q, or obtain one of their own of the high-performance 3D printers, 3DT Labs is launching a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of raising $40K by February 28th.

Pledges of $20 or more receive a Q t-shirt, while supporters hitting the $499 mark and up begin receiving packages including the full Q 3D printing package. At $499, early adoptors receive the Q 3D printer and software, along with a supply of filament. At $599, the same package is included with the addition of 40 3D printed objects made from the Q. A six-month warranty is included.

Design and development of the Q 3D printer is already complete. The Kickstarter funds will be for production costs of the Q, which is made of sheet metal and welded parts, a design they chose to increase durability of the 3D printer. The sheet metal is powder coated for easy maintenance. Featuring LED arrays in the front of the printer for better illumination while working on a project, the ooooQ not only has a great look, but the colors designate which phase of printing is happening. The control panel is easy to see, and loading filament is simple.

With the companion software, Eureka, the user makes designs through the use of elementary shapes which can be meshed and molded in 3D design, and can be made into creations from simple to complex, depending on the user’s knowledge level and what it is they need to 3D print.

The Q is an open-source design and with the concept of ease and empowerment behind the design of this 3D printer, 3DT Labs encourages users to tweak and improve the system for their specific uses and design and printing requirements.

3DT Labs come from busy Las Vegas, NV and they invite hobbyists and 3D printing enthusiasts to stop in and see them if you are in the area. What do you think of the all-in-one package, and the lack of learning curve associated with the user-friendly software and 3D printer? Tell us in the Q 3D Printer forum over at 3DPB.com.  Check out the Kickstarter pitch video below.
