The 2024 Olympic Games are currently taking place in Paris, and I for one will be sad when they’re over this weekend. But there are still plenty of exciting sports moments to watch until then, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this exciting event than 3D printing! Instead of focusing on the real-life Olympic applications for the technology, here’s a list of 3D printable Olympics-themed models, so you can join in the fun from the comfort of your couch, instead of the track.
Olympic Medal 2024 (simplified)
Since most of us watching from home have very little chance of winning our own Olympic medal, now you can just make one! Thingiverse user tc_fea designed this “simplified” version for a party, and it includes three STL files for multiple printing options. The first is for single extruder 3D printers, and you simply print it as a single piece and paint it gold, silver, or bronze. The second option is also for single extruder printers, but should be printed using a gray plastic, as the real Olympic medals contain pieces of the Eiffel Tower. The third file is for dual extruder printers.
“The image shown was printed on a Dual Extruder MakerGear M3-id printer using PLA with a 0.2 mm layer height.”
Articulated Olympic Games Medal
This next medal, by Cults3D user psysilk, is slightly more complicated, as a spinning Eiffel Tower is in the middle, directly over the Olympic Rings. There are STL files for the medal itself, the Eiffel Tower, and the key. This was printed with 10% infill, 0.16 mm layers, and brackets for the base of the tower “if needed,” but not for the medal and key.
2024 Olympic games Tea lights & coasters
If you’re hosting an Olympics watch party, this set of tea lights, coasters, and a coaster holder is perfect! Designed by Thingiverse user Rogue_72 using Autodesk Fusion 360, the coasters feature the medal designs, while the tea lights come in two LED holder designs: one with the 2024 Olympics flame design, and one with the Olympic rings and text in the official Paris 2024 font. No rafts or supports were needed, and everything prints with 100% infill and 0.2 mm resolution. If you don’t have the right filament colors, you can paint the models instead.
“I recommend to use LED tea light candles and not regular tea light candles, since most filaments are not very resistant to heat.
“They will be able to handle most coffee/tea mugs.”
Olympic Games Cookie Cutter
You’ll need cookies at your watch party, and you should definitely make them using this adorable 3D printed cookie cutter from Cults3D user guillaumebonin! I appreciate that pictures of real cut and baked cookies are included, and you can also see how to turn the cookies into edible medals by adding a small hole at the top and stringing ribbon through. Be sure to use a food-safe filament when printing.
Paris 2024 Olympics
If you’re stuck at the office and can’t make it to that watch party, fear not! This “simple souvenir for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games” by Thingiverse user Noured can also be used as a handy holder for your cell phone. Just turn your phone on silent, prop it up on this holder at your desk, and try not to yell too loudly when the U.S. takes on Brazil during the women’s volleyball semifinals.
“I have not yet tested its printing. It’s up to you to adapt it to your needs…”
Paris 2024 Olympic flame fridge magnet
MakerWorld user jean.sauge created this 1:10 2024 Olympic torch replica, which is actually a cool kitchen magnet. In addition to the 5×3 mm neodymium magnet, the model has just three parts for compatibility with single material printers, and tolerances were optimized at 0.2 mm height to enable assembly without the use of glue.
“I’ve been hiding some in France and Italy, for people to find”
What a fun idea!
France Olympic 5 circles glasses for adult V1.0
Another well-known symbol of the Olympic Games are its five interlocking, multi-colored rings. MakerWorld user Agentlab was clearly inspired by those silly year glasses everyone wears on New Year’s Eve when designing these fun Olympic rings glasses! The stems of the glasses should take about 21 minutes to print, while the rings themselves will take about two hours. Everything should be printed with 15% infill and 0.2 mm layers.
Champion Candlestick Olympic Games 2024
I really like this candlestick with dramatic lighting effects by Cults3D user NB_Creation_Vosges! 3D printed out of PLA with a layer height of 0.2 mm and 20% infill, it doesn’t require any supports, and should be used with standard tea lights. The rings should be printed flat, and the base of the candlestick should be printed in black, with a color change to gold 1 mm below the flame.
“Print the gold thread writings (very slowly). They are thin to follow the curve (3 layers in 0.2).”
Paris 2024 Olympic Games Pens/Pencils Organizer
Finally, this print by MakerWorld user constantinost is the perfect desk accessory for the last week of the Olympic Games. This organizer should be printed with 0.2 mm layers and 15% infill, and will take about six hours to print if you only use a single color. It might be better to do this and just paint the rings, as it will take much longer to print with colored rings.
“If you would like to make the printing a little bit shorter you can resize to 80-90 percent to reduce some time.”
Enjoy the last few days of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, and as always, happy 3D printing!
