Global medical device company K2M Group Holdings, which offers solutions for a range of PLIF, TLIF, and Lateral procedures, has been pretty busy over the last year. The company provides complex spine and minimally invasive solutions that are focused on helping patients achieve three-dimensional Total Body Balance, expanded its portfolio of 3D printed spinal solutions last summer after receiving FDA clearance for its CASCADIA Cervical 3D Interbody and CASCADIA AN Lordotic-Oblique Interbody systems; not long ago, its MOJAVE PL 3D Expandable Interbody System also achieved FDA clearance. This fall, K2M announced the US launch of its 3D printed spinal solutions portfolio, and several months ago introduced its comprehensive Balance ACS (BACS) platform, which allows the company to compete in the global market and focuses on balancing the spine by addressing each vertebral segment with a 360° approach to the sagittal, coronal, and axial plates.
K2M is definitely one to watch and today, the company has announced that its extensive 3D printed product offerings will be increasing. K2M has acquired the exclusive licence to a comprehensive portfolio of 17 issued and pending patents for expandable spinal implant technology. Thanks to this new licensed intellectual property (IP), K2M’s interbody portfolio will likely overtake some of the other currently available expandable devices.
That’s not the only news K2M has announced – in addition to the recent 510(k) clearance of its MOJAVE PL 3D Expandable Interbody System, which is a 3D printed, expandable posterior-lumbar interbody system that features the company’s Lamellar 3D Titanium Technology, K2M is also introducing its SAHARA AL Expandable Stabilization System.
This is the only expandable, lordotic interobody device currently available that uses an integrated screw fixation to help patients balance their spines. Like the company’s other offerings, the SAHARA device is 3D printed in titanium, and was specifically designed to give the anterior column stability while lowering the need for supplemental fixation in the lumbar spine. Its in-situ lordotic adjustment is also designed to match each patient’s sagittal profile.
K2M also announced that it will integrate its Lamellar 3D Titanium Technology into the new products it develops with the recently acquired IP, as the company seeks to enhance its market positioning with 3D printed spinal devices, which extend across three distinct product families.
