Maximus XL 3D Printer Launches on Indiegogo

The RepRap movement is certainly one which I personally respect a great deal. After all, what’s cooler than being able to 3D print the bulk of the parts needed to build a new 3D printer? RepRap can be credited for a great max-4deal of the progress and innovation we have seen within the FDM-based desktop 3D printer market. In fact, even MakerBot, one of the best selling desktop 3D printer brands out there, was built based on the early progress of the RepRap movement.

One man from Manglieu, France, named Michael Ipas, and his company, MyTechno3D, has used the RepRap framework to create a large scale desktop 3D printer called the Maximus XL. The printer, which features a gigantic 430mm x 330mm x 250mm build envelope,  is currently seeking €20,000 in funding on Indiegogo for full-scale production. Ipas has stated that the prototype of the machine is working fine, so once his campaign is funded, the manufacturing of the kits should occur in short order. Below are the general specifications for the Maximus XL 3D printer.

  • Printer Size: 500mm x 500mm x 500mm
  • Build Envelope: 430mm x 330mm x250 mm
  • Printer Electronic: Rambo Board and Nema 17 steppers motors
  • Filament Type: Nylon, ABS, PLA, Laywood, at a minimum thickness of 0.2mm
  • Auto-level Function: Yes

There are two basic options for those backing this project. The first option requires a pledge of €875 ($1170) and will include the full Maximus XL 3D printer kit, along with a 1kg spool of PLA filament. The second option will require a pledge of €950 ($1270) and includes the full Maximus XL printer, a full graphic LCD screen, a rambo board adapter, and a raspberry Pi which will allow for remote access of the printer.max-3

The kit will include all of the following: Electronics, frames, printed parts, motors, hot end, wiring, and the power supply. Ipas will also be offering all backers free upgrades for the first year after their purchase. What this means is that if Ipas decides to upgrade the device at all, all backers will have the option of receiving any upgraded hardware in the mail, provided they cover the shipping costs.

The Indiegogo campaign will run from now until September 24th, and backers will receive their printers sometime in October, according to Ipas.
