It seems like Kickstarter and 3D printing are a match made in heaven. Over the last few years we have seen numerous 3D printers funded on Kickstarter. This is likely because the DIY community has seemingly taken both Kickstarter and the 3D printing industry under its wings.

A Look at the Xcaliboard Manufacturing Facility

Today, a brand new Kickstarter projects has launched. The Xcaliboard 3D printing control board project has been created by a man named Jeremy A. Sims. He is seeking $10,000 in the next 35 days to be able to mass produce the board, and ultimately bring it to market. The DIY 3D printing movement has really taken off recently.

The Reprap, 3d printed 3D printer, is remarkable, and allows hobbyists to print and assemble their own devices. The Xcaliboard can be used within many of these homemade printers, and certainly gives hobbyists yet another awesome option to choose from.

The specs of the board are as follows:

  • Four integrated Allegro A4982 Stepper
  • Four 5V Endstop Connectors Supplied
  • Atmel AT90USB1286 Microcontroller
  • OnBoard SD Card Slot
  • 1 N-MOSFET for low power Fan or motor
  • 2 N-MOSFETs for Extruder and Heatbed control
  • Blue LED
  • Marlin Firmware

They currently have 200 “early bird” boards available for preorder, via their Kickstarter rewards. They are also offering other rewards to their backers, which include a 3D printed key chain, and name recognition on their website. Jeremy also has a very aggressive production timeline. The Kickstarter project will end on March 15th, and by April 26th he expects to ship out the very first Xcaliboard.  For firther details on this control board, check out the Kickstarter project, and also check out the video below:
