3D modeling has become quite popular, with both hobbyists and professionals from around the world realizing that there are suddenly more and more uses for this artistic talent. 3D models can be used in various professions for a plethora of different purposes, whether it be architectural modeling, medical modeling, or even creating characters for 3D films. As of late, many 3D modelers have found themselves purchasing 3D printers so that they can create real, live, tangible replicas of their 3-dimensional works.

One website that is really becoming popular is Sketchfab, a repository of sorts for over 200,000 different 3D models. These models can be viewed live on the website via their in-browser ‘Universal 3D Viewer’.

Sketchfab is becoming a destination for individuals and companies looking to create 3D printable content. Because of this, we thought it would be interesting to see what the most popular, downloadable, 3D printable files on Sketchfab are. Thanks to the very cooperative guys that run the site, we’ve been provided with this month’s top 5 3D printable models. They are as follows (in no particular order):

Granite Head of Amenemhat III

You probably have seen this 3D model before. It was uploaded to Sketchfab by the British Museum, and is a 3D scan from the Temple of Bastet, Bubastis, Egypt during the 12th Dynasty around the year 1800 BC. According to the Museum, “[it] comes from one of two large seated statues of Amenemhat III (1854-1808 BC) that flanked the entrance to the temple at Bubastis. Fragments of the lower part of this statue are also in the British Museum, while the head of the second statue is now in the Cairo Museum. Temples were often flanked by pairs of colossal statues, the best example being the so-called Colossi of Memnon at the entrance to the Temple of Amenhotep III (1390-1352 BC).”

Now it can be downloaded and 3D printed by anyone!

Lumecluster Dreamer Half Mask: Beacon

This Sketchfab exclusive is a simplified half-mask variation of this designer’s full-face Dreamer Mask: Beacon.  It is very intricately detailed and seems as though it would print best on a higher quality SLS-based 3D printer.

Centaur

This model takes the traditional Centaur and incorporates some modern day warfare aspects into it. Created by designer “patrix,” it remains a work in progress, and is based off of an old drawing that he made back in high school.

Oscar Award

Ever wish you were a movie star? Well, now you can at least have your very own Oscar Award. First released in 1929, this award has become the most sought after trophy within the film industry. It can now be downloaded and 3D printed if you would like, or you can even have one printed for you via 3DHubs.

Nanotyrannus Lancensis (Young T-Rex)

This model is from the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France. It is a scan of a 65 million year old baby T-Rex found in Montana.. It was scanned in using an Agisoft Photoscan scanner and would make for a very interesting 3D print.

Have you downloaded and printed any of these 3D models? Discuss in the Top Downloaded Sketchfab Models forum thread on 3DPB.com.
