We’re gearing up for the launch of our brand new 3D Printing for Prototyping and Production course, beginning October 31, so if you haven’t signed up yet, now is the perfect time!

When you register for the course, you’ll be granted early access to our robust online classroom, where you can begin polishing your 3D print design skills by viewing the expert-led keynote sessions from our two summer courses, Beginning Design for 3D Printing and Advanced Design for 3D Printing. Topics covered in the past keynotes include basic design principles, broken files and manifold 3D design, sculptural design, 3D printing engineering principles, and coding/generative design. This wealth of bonus material will serve as a vital resource as you work to achieve your 3D design goals and will enrich your experience in our insightful and practical new design course.

The 3-week long course, which is sponsored by 3D Systems, will help you advance your 3D print know-how in insightful and practical ways. You will learn the key principles of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and prototyping parts using 3D printing. In addition, you’ll be exposed to the benefits of prototyping using 3D print technology vs. traditional prototyping methods, and learn about opportunities for manufacturing sellable goods using 3D printing. You’ll learn the ins-and-outs of the most relevant software for 3D print design in our live keynote sessions and come away from the workshop with a sense of independence around the principles of 3D printing for production.

Throughout the course, you’ll be invited to complete assignments designed to help you practice new skills and engage with tools shared during the live sessions. What’s more, assignments will feature options for both beginners and pros to prototyping and production. In Week 1, you’ll be asked to create a design for a prototype – either your own, or one we suggest. In Week 2, you’ll build on your work to develop a prototyping plan, and in Week 3, you’ll create a financial analysis of your plan. Each week comes with models, guides, and tools – such as a financial planning template we provide – for a scaffolded and supportive learning environment. And once you post your homework, you’ll receive personalized feedback from your coach, Jordan Pelovitz. By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of designing for prototyping and production, and greater insight into each step of the process toward making your design a success!
