materialiseWhen it comes to covering all of the applications where 3D printing technology has proved beneficial, no 3D printing service bureau has the range of service that the Belgium-based company Materialise has. From spacecraft components to fashion, the 3D printing solutions provider has managed to expand their facilities across Europe while keeping their financial numbers in positive territory. Not only does Materialise have a vast arsenal of 3D printing services available for all industries, they’ve also taken it upon themselves to host conferences and workshops throughout the world. These events have helped spread the gospel of 3D printing technology, and have connected industry leaders with eager learners looking to implement the emerging technology into their business.

This past week, Materialise held the Kolloquium 4.0: A 3DP Academy conference and workshop, which brought 3D printing professionals and enthusiasts from throughout the world together in Essen, Germany. The 3DP Academy was hosted at the Zollverein coal mine, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site considered to be a masterpiece of historical industrial architecture. Thus, the cherished backdrop provided the 3D printing conference and workshop with a poetic dichotomy between new and old technologies.

Kolloquium 4.0 featured speakers from a wide range of leading tech companies, including Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, Lufthansa, Siemens, and many others. The event made sure to span over all of the sectors that have been impacted by the emergence of 3D printing technology, offering a little bit of everything for attendees. The conference was both an informative and conversational event, helping an entire spectrum of attendees discover the different ways that 3D printing technology could potentially improve their business or even livelihood.

Following the Kolloquium 4.0 conference, participants were taken on a visit of the Red Dot Design Museum, where Materialise is hosting the “Making A Difference / A Difference in Making” 3D printing exhibition. The traveling exhibition was curated by Marta Malé-Alemany and produced by Materialise, and is the first display in Germany to focus solely on 3D printing technology. The exhibition showcases how the 3D printing technology has helped save lives, revolutionize industries, and empower makers around the world.

“Even though we work with such amazing projects from varied customers every day, in so many different industries, it’s only at an exhibition like this that you really see a glimpse of what Additive Manufacturing is capable of today,” says Claudia Schallenberg, Materialise Germany. “It was also a great complement to the discussions from the conference, to come to the Red Dot museum and see many of the ideas already in action.”

Though the Kolloquium 4.0 conference has ended, you can still visit Materialise’s “Making A Difference / A Difference in Making” exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum up until October 30, 2016. The 3D printing service provider is constantly hosting and taking part in 3D printing conferences and workshops throughout the world, so keep your eyes peeled for the next Materialise event coming to a region near you.
