Geomagic: 3D Systems Offers Updates & New Features for 3D Scan-to-Design, 3D Inspection & MCAD Products
Things are looking pretty enticing for Geomagic users right now. We’ve been following the many facets of this 3D Systems software along the way, but we haven’t seen anything like this, taking a look at the new updates already out for 2016, applying to Geomagic 3D scan-to-design, 3D inspection and MCAD products.
Geomagic Design X is known as a reverse engineering software combining history-based CAD and 3D scan data processing. With the updates, designers can create ‘feature-based surface models’ or solid models–all compatible with MCAD.
- Quick, easy access to the entire toolset
- Mode-less mesh editing
- Quick access toolbar
- Improved accuracy analyzer tool choices
- Right-click contextual menu puts commonly-used functions right at the user’s mouse tip
- Improved tooltips to better understand a function at a glance
Powerful exact surfacing is a major new feature also, employing algorithms that allow for perfect NURBS surfaces for CAD modeling, FEA, entertainment engineering, archiving, and more. Exact surfaces give users greater control, layout, patching, and fitting.
HD mesh construction is new in the 2016 update also offering both high resolution and high definition, automatic hole filling, and the ability to handle any type of scanned data–from handheld to long range.
Geomagic Control, a 3D metrology solution and automation platform, is also experiencing updates with:
- Import of Microsoft Word templates
- Drag-and-drop setup of report elements
- Easy editing of report templates
- Output to 2D PDF
- Updated CAD File Format Support includes numerous platforms from Autodesk Inventor to neutral formats
- New scanner support with additional support for Faro scanners
Geomagic Control is already known as one of the most comprehensive metrology and automation platforms, offering a wide range of tools in one platform that users can easily customize. Geared toward professionals working in automotive, aerospace, defense, consumer products, medical, and other manufacturing industries, the software allows for superior quality in every project.
The Geomagic Design MCAD software is receiving improved support for current MCAD file import. This includes SOLIDWORKS 2015 and Autodesk Inventor 2016. Users can also look forward to miroring in assemblies, Live Linking with KeyShot, further support for DXF and DWG file import and export, as well as a lot of bug fixes.
These updates are meant to offer users a more refreshing interface that helps with productivity, is easier to use, and increases speed as well–which is always a goal. Workflow should be smoother and processes overall more greatly enhanced with these updates and new features.
