angrybirds1Do you remember the day when the idea of “playing a game” meant more than just simply picking up a video game controller or smartphone? Do you remember when actual “game playing” meant sitting around the kitchen table or living room floor with your friends and family, spending time together and trying to prove that you have what it takes to defeat your closest rivals.  Perhaps you are too young to remember life before all digital gaming took over the world.

angrybirds2Today’s world is filled with video games, and games which take place in the palms of our hands, on smartphones and tablets. Perhaps it’s Candy Crush, or maybe it’s one of the latest versions of Angry Birds. Regardless though, you must admit that these games are missing a certain fun-factor that traditional tabletop games once provided. Did you ever imagine what it would be like if there was a tabletop version of the world famous Angry Birds? What if you could sit down at your kitchen table and play that addicting game with tangible sling shots, various bird characters and the famous pigs? What if you could build your own fortress and then see if you friends could destroy it as well as the pigs hiding inside?

Well, now this is an option, with a 3D printable Angry Birds tabletop game from two My Mini Factory designers. Marco Autilio and Lloyd Roberts. Both of these men are very talented designers, and together they have created everything from the protagonist birds such as Terence, Chuck, Red, Matilda, and Bomb, as well as the antagonist pigs we are all too familiar with, including Minion Pig, Corporal Pig, Foreman Pig and King Pig.

angrybirds5That’s not all though, various “wood”, “ice” and “stone” blocks have also been designed, as well as a real working slingshot that can launch the birds through the air toward their intended targets.

“I graduated from the University of Lincoln in September 2014 and being able to play with 3D printers at work is a dream,” Roberts told 3DPrint.com. “I have used my own personal 3D Printer (Replicator 2) since shortly after its release in late 2012, and I continue to make things on a weekly basis, ranging from small functional objects to large multi-part prints that seem to take hours and endless spools of material.”

This might just be Roberts and Autilio’s most clever creation yet though. In all, there are 11 different 3D printable characters and over a dozen different block shapes that are free to download from My Mini Factory and print in the luxury of your own home, or even office (if you dare). So put down that smartphone or tablet, throw those video game controllers behind your TV stand, and start printing this intriguingly fun and entertaining tabletop version of Angry Birds.

Which of these 3D printable characters are your favorites? Have you downloaded and printed this game yet? How did it go? Discuss in the 3D Printed Angry Birds Tabletop Game forum thread on 3DPB.com.
