MakerBot Teams With Sesame Street to Bring Licensed Content to Their Digital Store
The MakerBot Digtal Store has just been getting better and better as of late. Just last week they introduced a full, to-scale replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, which is 3D printable on any MakerBot printer.
Today, MakerBot announces that they have entered a partnership agreement with Sesame Street, to bring even more high quality 3D printable items to their digital store.
Starting today, MakerBot will begin selling Sesame Street licensed content in their store. The first design available to download for $1.29 is ‘Mr. Snuffleupagus’. Owners of MakerBot 3D printers can download the design and then print it at home on their 3D printers. This is just the first of many more Sesame Street characters that will gradually be added to the digital store.
On top of this, these printed out designs will also soon be available to purchase at MakerBot retail stores.
“We are really proud to launch our first branded and licensed 3D printed products for the MakerBot Digital Store and MakerBot Retail Stores with Sesame Street,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “Sesame Street has always been near and dear to my heart. I used to work for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and I grew up watching Sesame Street. Having the ability to 3D print a beloved character – or soon, an entire set of cherished characters — will be really fun and educational. 3D printing is like having an engineering education in a box, but with Sesame Street, it has a playful and familiar twist.”
For those attendees at this weekend’s Maker Faire in San Mateo, California, there will be 3D printed models of this new ‘Mr. Snuffleupagus’ design, hidden in various locations throughout the venue. Anyone that finds one will be able to take a ‘selfie’ photo in front of an eight-foot tall, 3D printed replica of Seasame Street’s iconic lamp and sign post.
Those contestants who post their selfie photos to Twitter or Instagram with the tag #SnuffySelfie will have the chance to win a MakerBot Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer, $100 worth of MakerBot Digital Store content, three spools of MakerBot PLA Filament or select Sesame Street merchandise.
