The service will provide quarterly global shipment tracking and forecasting of 3D printing hardware. The company says that offering will soon expand to include information about supplies, materials and services.

Featuring a “unique in its granular segmentation,” the supply-chain focus of the service and its ability to leverage channel sales data will be augmented by regular bulletins of key news and analysis. The service will also provide global and regional forecasts for the market.

CONTEXT is headquartered in London, and with more than 200 staff members in 15 countries, the company specializes in tracking technology sales, pricing and channel information. Boasting what they say is the largest Distribution Channel Sales Database in the world, CONTEXT tracks channel sales across EMEA countries, and they also serve as the official data partner for the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC).

The service will allow companies to track trends in the 3DP sphere by providing data and insight into 3D printing on a global scale, and Chris Connery, an industry veteran with more than 24 years IT market experience, will head up the effort.

Connery will serve as CONTEXT’s new VP for Global Analysis and Research.

“The attention to the personal 3D Printer market has never been higher, with shipments for these desktop 3D printers poised to surpass 1 million units by 2018,” Connery says. “When combined with forecast sales of established industrial and professional 3D printers, the total market for printer hardware alone is on pace to pass $5 billion worldwide in just the next few years. CONTEXT is leading the way in forecasting and tracking this new category, not only globally, but also across the entire value chain through our rich network of global channel tracking programs.”
