Design contests and 3D printing seem to go hand in hand. If you are a designer, over the past several months you have had a pretty good chance of using your skills to walk away with some pretty incredible prizes. Today, my-3yet another design competition has launched.  The ‘MyMiniFactory 1st Birthday Design Competition’ will award several amazing prizes to its top designers.

Last July, MyMiniFactory officially launched their online repository of 3D printable designs. The company, located in London, England, allows users to download designs from a library of models, which are specifically created for 3D printing. The company also sells already 3D printed objects, and will print customers’ own designs for them at a fee. To celebrate their first year in business, MyMiniFactory has teamed with NinjaFlex filament to launch this unique design contest, which will pit designers against each other to design the most popular iPhone case backing.

Designers can enter the contest by following the steps below:

  • Download the .obj iPhone case frame template. Your design will need to be created, so that it fits within this template. The design can be one layer or several, depending on how far you want the backing to protrude from the case. The only limitations are that the design must fit within the frame, and be at least 1 mm thick.
  • Once the design is finished, merge it into that of the frame using NetFabb.
  • Upload your design/frame in .STL file format to MyMiniFactory.com, along with a screenshot measuring 600 x 600, and a brief description of your design.
