Miami Student Writes Award-Winning E-Books with 3D Printable Sunny the Bear & Accessories

Educating today’s younger generation about 3D printing is a great way to incorporate the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum into learning and cultivate an enthusiastic response as well as a passion for making and innovating.

Because 3D design and 3D printing employ so many of the STEM disciplines all in one, and are user-friendly and appealing to students, 3D printing is quickly gaining popularity in schools of all kinds, including home-schooling groups and reaching students of every level and age, from those attaining graduate degrees to those just learning how to read.

Many different tools for reinforcement are important for students who are just learning how to read. And no one realizes how important reading and learning are more than another student who is still in their midst — especially Daniel Freedline, who is both an inspired student and an inspiring and uniquely generous individual.

Daniel is in the 9^th grade and has launched a series of free, award winning e-books written for kids ages three to seven, which he was motivated to do after working with underprivileged children in Miami, FL, where he lives. Through his work and mentoring he learned which types of stories, verbiage, and pictures appealed to children of those ages.

“I began to think about a new book that would help young kids address some of the issues they face in today’s world and also learn about new and exciting things. But I also wanted to keep their interest in a new and unique way,” says Daniel.

With the help of his brother, Alexander, who is in seventh grade, Daniel has written three different volumes of downloadable books, which also include a free coloring book to be downloaded. Each different volume about Sunny the Bear features four stories that can be downloaded, with the unique twist that the young readers can then navigate over to the 3D Pictures tab and either check out the video and ‘play’ with Sunny there, or download the file and 3D print a Sunny bear as an inspiring mascot to accompany bedtime stories each night.

Also available for downloading and 3D printing are a number of items and accessories from the stories like the flashlight from volume one, and then for reinforcement regarding reading completed in Sunny Explores the Beach, children and their parents can download the conch shell, starfish, beach pail, sandcastle, beach ball, coconut, and bike helmet.

“Instead of parents going to a bookstore to purchase a book and a toy store to purchase a toy, they can download the kids’ books and print their own toys!” Freedline told 3DPrint.com. “My books are a great way for parents and kids to learn about the wonders and utility of 3D printing.”

Freedline has consistently been adding to the website with a continually growing inventory of items to check out, download, and 3D print. The bedtime stories are an innovative and fun new way for kids and parents to interact at the end of the day, and kids can either have the fun of playing with a 3D printed figurine or object, or playing with the bear or objects on a tablet.
