Voodoo Manufacturing and ACEO Introduce New Functional 3D Printing Materials

Voodoo Manufacturing is one of the more progressive 3D printing service bureaus out there, with its automated 3D printing factory and large format services, just to name a few of the offerings that set it apart from others. The platform did have one limitation, however – it offered almost exclusively PLA, meaning that customers with high-performance material requirements needed to look elsewhere. Now, however, Voodoo Manufacturing is offering two new materials, both high-performance: PET-G and TPU.

PET-G (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is a versatile material – it’s food-safe and can be used for medical applications, and its high chemical and temperature resistance make it ideal for mechanical applications. TPU (rigid thermoplastic polyurethane) is a robust material well-suited to parts with frequent or constant wear and impact, like braces, fasteners, phone cases and replacement washers.

The introduction of these two new materials allows Voodoo Manufacturing to reach a wider market, including applications in robotics, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics and more. The service bureau is using the materials itself to build components for its robotic 3D printing factory, and it has also been working closely with customers to test the new materials. One client that pilot tested the materials is JASPER Engines, which remanufactures gas and diesel engines, transmissions and other motors and parts. JASPER used PET-G to make protective covers for magnetic timing wheels used in its camshaft assemblies. Voodoo Manufacturing worked with the company to optimize the parts so they could withstand multiple cycles of heat and chemical treatments during cleaning.

“We’re excited to launch these new materials because they bring us one step closer to competing head on with injection molding for production-grade parts,” said Max Friefeld, CEO and Co-Founder at Voodoo Manufacturing. “With these new materials, we are able to reach new audiences, especially customers with engineering projects that have higher temperature and durability requirements.”

PET-G is available in black, white or cool gray, while Rigid TPU comes in black or white. Custom colors are also available by contacting Voodoo Manufacturing.

Also introducing a new material is ACEO, the silicone 3D printing brand of Wacker Chemie.

The brand introduced multi-material silicone 3D printing not long ago, and now it has a new silicone material to add to the mix. ShA20 Silicone is available in a wide range of colors and hardnesses. Shore Hardness A 20 is available in blue, skin, black, red, white and gray, while Shore Hardness A 30, 40, and 60 are available in blue, skin, translucent, black, red, white and gray.

The new material can be used for anatomical models and a variety of other applications. If you’re interested in seeing the technical data sheets for ShA 20, 30 and 60, you can request them by emailing info@aceo3D.com. ACEO also offers a variety of other silicone materials for a range of applications.
