In addition to the new 3D printers, products, materials, and technology that will be showcased at CES 2018 in Las Vegas this week, the team of autonomous topology optimization and generative lightweighting design experts at ParaMatters will be releasing its cloud-based CogniCAD platform at the trade show. The cognitive design platform, which is immediately available for use and purchase, can automatically 3D print high-performance, lightweighted structures for mission critical applications, like those in the aerospace and automotive industries.

ParaMatters CTO and Co-Founder Michael Bogomolny said, “We are thrilled to launch CogniCAD, the ultimate generative design and lightweighting tool that the entire industry has been waiting for. The technology represents the convergence of advanced topology optimization techniques, computational geometry, infinite computing power in the cloud, and artificial intelligence.”

ParaMatters, which has a goal of making the design-to-manufacturing process fully autonomous and automated, is an expert in terms of artificial intelligence, CAD, computational mechanics, and topology optimization. The latter, often used in the 3D printing world, is a mathematical approach that optimizes the material layout in a given design space and allows engineers to meet design requirements with the best concept design.

The company’s autonomous CogniCAD topology optimizer design platform can automatically generate 3D printing-ready lightweighted, high-performance structures. Users first need to import CAD files into the platform, before next defining the loading and design criteria. In only a matter of minutes, they will get verified, generative designs that are ready for 3D printing.

According to a ParaMatters release, the company’s technology and CogniCAD platform are helping to make 3D printing “the lightweighting engine of choice for automotive and aerospace companies.”

“We are transforming the entire design-to-manufacturing process by making it autonomous and automated to generate high-quality, optimized lightweighted designs. Our proprietary generative engine automatically delivers high performance and quality designs with minimal user input,” Bogomolny explained. “As a result, the entire design cycle is compressed from days to hours, and raises the quality of generative designs compared to what can be achieved manually.”

All of the the company’s generated designs are able to be directly produced with 3D printing, which helps speed up the innovation cycle. ParaMatters is working on creating advanced algorithms, including its generative design platform, that can enhance additive manufacturing capabilities and the digital thread. The on-demand platform can automatically compile lightweight, metamaterial lattice structures, based on factors specified by engineers and designers, such as cost, material, size, strength, style, and weight.

The platform offers:

  • Superior Topology Optimization for Ultimate Lightweighting: no manual remodeling and shorter design process
  • Meta-Materials Compiler (Lattice Structures Design by Demand): offers unique properties, such as negative Poisson’s ratio
  • Unique Meso-Structural Designer (Blended Topology and Optimal Porosity): failsafe design and superior energy absorption

You can easily access the CogniCAD platform as a pay per design cloud-based service through the ParaMatters website, though the company is also looking into other subscription and enterprise models, along with strategic partnerships.

Speaking of partnerships, as part of its expanding focus on the automotive industry, ParaMatters has joined the open innovation program at Techniplas, which helps grow powerful partnerships and deliver benefits from shared technologies in order to develop new 3D printing industry opportunities.

ParaMatters is now a full innovation partner, and will be exhibiting at CES this week at Techniplas booth #9100, along with some of the other lightweighting and additive technology companies in the Techniplas network.

Don’t forget, 3DPrint.com will also be at CES, bringing you all of the latest product and technology news right from the showroom floor.
