It hasn’t taken long for the 3Doodler to win some respect. While it may have initially emerged as ‘3D printing light’, delegated for the crowd on a budget just looking to do some minor arts and crafts and play around a little, that image has certainly been dispelled. Yes, this is 3D printing on the more affordable and simple level, but we have seen designers producing some stunning and truly surprising work from fine art to a sculpture of a full-sized car.
Now, 3Doodler is going PRO as they target those engaged in serious prototyping, concept development, and more, looking toward architects, engineers, and artists. Not only is the 3Doodler PRO a more serious version of the 3D printing pen, it offers a range of alternative filaments that are going to have plenty of designers excited, with the ability now to use wood, copper, bronze, nylon, and polycarbonate, in addition to the over 65 compatible varieties of plastic filament already available in the 3Doodler line.

Architects in particular should find the high-speed fan handy as it allows for a solid plastic structure to be printed, or painted, in the air in one movement. This should prove to be helpful in making blueprints—whether they are indeed airborne or on a surface.

The 3Doodler PRO was released for sale on September 1, 2016, retailing at $249 from the MoMA Design Store. Soon, the new 3D printing pen will also be available from Barnes & Noble, Macy’s, Amazon, and delivered worldwide via 3DoodlerPRO.
