Do you spend more time reading and dreaming about 3D technology than you do actually using it? While products and prices are changing rapidly there is still an affordability and accessibility issue for many, combined with hesitation to jump in. And while lower prices are probably something you are beginning to equate with 3D scanners and 3D printers, virtual reality tools may still seem cost-prohibitive, depending on your uses.

UntitledIf you aren’t a gamer, you may not have bothered to save up for some of the virtual reality devices we often highlight, like the Oculus Rift headset, which is of course the most notable—along with many other new VR applications out there either emulating it or somehow attaching to it, like the recent dramatic ‘Eyes of the Animal’ experience.

Weeview is a new company that is probably about to change your mind if you have an interest in virtual reality, as well as using more advanced video and photography from your Android phone. The Eye-Plug is a small (but very good-looking!) piece of equipment with a great price.

At under $50, you can look forward to a ‘featherlight’ attachment that allows your phone to become a virtual reality device. Just plug in via the micro USB OTG and you can start making 3D videos straight from your Android smartphone (running 4.4.2 and above). This may be the beginning of the end for all those shaky, slightly sad videos we’ve been posting from our phones to social media for years now, as with Eye-Plug you will experience much higher video quality and editing processes.

7a-1The virtual reality portion is what you make it, as you can create these 3D videos and then view them through any VR headset, from Oculus Rift to Google Cardboard (you can also check out a variety of other options here). Are you a budding filmmaker? If so, this will probably allow for a lot of fulfilling personal projects, making memories that you can save forever.

Weeview promises you can ‘bring your story to life’ as you capture all those all those memorable moments in 3D, whether at a birthday party, traveling, or just being silly on the weekend with the family. It features a rotating head for ease in taking video, and includes a range of 3D video options and filters. Creating is easy as well as editing and then sharing on social media—all through the Eye-Plug app, which offers focusing and control of background blur, even allowing you to experiment with that cool bokeh effect too.

This is all you do to use the Eye-Plug:

  1. Attach it to the micro-USB connector on your Android device.
  2. Launch the Eye-Plug 3D app to start capturing your moments.
  3. View later in any VR device.
  4. Share with friends, family, and on social media easily.

Remember those days where either you or your parents were carting around bulky video devices and camera equipment? While many of the pros still rely on some of the more traditional but now highly digitized methods, for most of us—and especially with this new device—we can probably carry what we need in a fairly small pocket. The Eye-Plug adds definition to the term no muss, no fuss, and also lets you enjoy much more spontaneity in your photography and sharing.Untitled

“In less than three steps you can start shooting like a rock star,” states the Weeview team.

Just attach, capture, view. Those are the three words to remember, basically, and then you can see your own world in 3D. For the price, this is awfully tempting—and what a great gift idea too for your Android loving, electronics savvy friends and family.

UntitledA startup just established this year, Weeview’s mission is to design technology ‘ahead of the curve’ with a dedicated team made up of hardware and software engineers experienced in the areas of computer vision, optical design, application development and 3D spatial visualization.
