Maker Box Lowers Monthly Subscription Fee, Adds Second “Basic” Subscription Box

Monthly subscription boxes are big business, and dozens of companies have found massive success in a wide variety of different industries. There are monthly boxes for everything from toys to art supplies to makeup and beauty products to food and fresh produce. It took a while for 3D printing to get its own subscription boxes, mainly because no one could really figure out how to do it right, but we have finally ended up with a few great, but very different options. When Maker Box launched back in December 2015, it initially cost about $70 a month. But when new owners took over the name, they ended up dropping the tools and 3D printing accessories that were included in the first few boxes, and caused the high price, and the box has steadily grown in popularity since.

Each monthly Maker Box Premium includes 4 sample rolls of filament while the Basic box includes 3 sample rolls.

The Maker Box Premium Subscription now costs only $17 and includes four 50 gram sample rolls of new 3D printing filaments every month. The box will also include free shipping in the United States, and discounts on 3D printing accessories and on full spools of the sample materials. All Premium members will also have the opportunity to win prizes that will be randomly inserted into their boxes.

Their Maker Box Basic Subscription is their new monthly product box that is only going to set you back $14 and will include three 50 gram sample rolls of filament. One of the features of the Maker Box that I really like is the instructions that are included with each sample roll of filament. No one wants to waste what little there is of a sample filament roll trying to figure out the best printer settings. So the guys from Maker Box include a sticker on the front with written usage instructions, recommended printer settings and printing temperatures. It’s a nice way to prevent material waste, reduce the amount of failed prints and make your samples go further. Each sample is also sealed in a plastic bag with a silicate packet to prevent any moisture damage.
