ZYYX-aluminium-upgradeMagicfirm Europe may sound like a place where Hogwarts graduates go to find employment, but the Swedish company is actually a highly successful 3D printer manufacturer. There is something magical about their ZYYX 3D printer, though. First introduced in 2014, the ZYYX caught people’s attention with one feature in particular – a fan system that eliminates fumes from melting filament. A fresh-air environment when printing is highly appealing, and the introduction of several smart features less than a year later enhanced the printer’s user-friendly, streamlined quality. Now, the company has released the ZYYX+, which improves even further on the already highly agreeable printer.

“The first ZYYX 3D printer was developed with focus on reliability, ease-of-use, making it fume free and quiet since this was lacking in the existing 3D printers,” said Mats Moosberg, CEO of Magicfirm Europe. “With the new ZYYX+, our objective has been to surpass our competitors when it comes to print quality.”

This improved print quality is achieved with several new features, many of them aimed at reducing vibration. A vibrating printer can wreak havoc on print quality, particularly when you’re trying to achieve a high-resolution, finely detailed print. The ZYYX+ has replaced all of the moving parts around the print head with aluminum ones, which increases the stability of the printer and prevents vibration. Not only does this improve print quality, but it also extends the lifetime of the printer. To cut down even further on vibration, the company has redesigned the motion planner and extrusion algorithms, which steadies the printer and reduces retraction.

The fan holder has been redesigned so that print head maintenance is a breeze (sorry): just unlatch the holder, flip it to the side, swab or do whatever else you need to do to the feeder mechanism, and flip the holder back into place.

Then there’s the filament! Magicfirm has also developed a new line of filament to go with the ZYYX+. The ZYYX Pro line includes ZYYX proPLA, ZYYZ proABS, and ZYYX proFlex. Other filaments can, of course, be used with the ZYYX+, the company assures, but the Pro filaments are optimized for reliability and quality. A few features include:

ZYYX proPLA:

  • Stable overhang performance
  • Controlled viscosity during the cooling phase
  • Semi-glossy finish

proABS

ZYYX proABS:

  • Polymer mix ensures minimal warp
  • Optimal for printing prototypes or production parts exposed to medium mechanical stress
  • Matte surface

ZYYX proFlex:

  • Hardness of approximately 85a
  • Hardness of printed model can be adjusted in Simplify3D
  • Recommended for use with ZYYX SoftSpring

Each filament type is sold in rolls of 1kg. PLA and ABS cost $50.92 per spool and can be ordered in white, black, red, yellow, blue, gray and green; Flex costs $73.70 and is available in gray and back. The ZYYX+ printer is the same price as its predecessor: €1,550 or $2,077. If you order yours now, you’ll also get a free maintenance kit and a fully stocked toolbox.
