The number of applications available for 3D printers continues to expand, from both a business and hobbyist perspective. One subcategory of the 3D printing craze, which has begun to get traction, has been 3D printer pens. Starting with the 3Doodler pen, which raised over $2.3 million on Kickstarter last March, the market has continued to expand. There have been a few other devices which have launched since. Currently the Lix Pen has their own crowdfunding campaign running on Kickstarter, which has already brought in over £693,000 in funding. The craze doesn’t end there though. This week, yet another 3D printer pen, the Cloudio2go launched their very own Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.
The new Cloudio2go 3D printer pen, is a build very similar to that of the 3Doodler, but according to the company it is lighter, making it much easier for children to handle. It also brings several new technologies to the table, such as a better heating process, intelligent standby, and a better way of dealing with friction.
The company is offering several rewards for those who back their Inidegogo campaign. Backers who contribute $10 will receive a package of 30 ABS or PLA plastic sticks, which are used in the pen as an ‘ink’. Those who contribute $89 with receive the Cloudio2go 3D printer pen along with a pack of 30 plastic sticks. Additional, more expensive options are available to backers who wish to pick up more than just one pen.
The specifications of this device are as follows:
- Technology: Hot melt extrusion molding accumulation
- Print Range: No limit
- Spinning speed: Adjustable
- Extruder temperature: 160- 250 degrees Celsius
- Nozzle Size: 0.4-0 .7 mm
- Pen Weight : 0.4kg
- Pen Size: 22cm x 17cm x 6.3cm
This crowdfunding campaign will run until June 4th, and looks to raise $5,000 for the company. Note that this is an Indiegogo flexible funding campaign, meaning that Cloudio2go does not need to reach their $5,000 stated goal, in order to receive the funds they have raised.
