Endurance Robots is much more than a robotics company. In addition to its build-your-own robot kits, it also sells laser equipment through its sister company Endurance Lasers, but no matter the product, Endurance embraces a philosophy of DIY, offering ways for you to upgrade your own 3D printer yourself – with plenty of support from the company.

Endurance sells a wide variety of lasers that can be used to upgrade a 3D printer or CNC machine into a laser cutter or engraver. Hybrid 3D printers and CNC machines have been growing in popularity, not just on an industrial level but on a desktop consumer level as well, with multiple companies selling machines that combine 3D printers, CNC routers and laser engravers in one. Endurance’s lasers can be added to almost any 3D printer or CNC machine to give it an additional function. They have been tested and found to be compatible with a long list of 3D printers and CNC machines; as  you can see, it’s a pretty comprehensive collection.

An especially popular laser from Endurance is its 8W (8000 mW) solid state diode laser, a fast, deep-cutting laser that can cut into a wide variety of materials including plywood, wood, acrylic, plastics such as ABS and PLA, cardboard, hardboard, felt, leather, stone, glass, aluminum, ceramics and more. It’s one of the most powerful and advanced lasers of its kind, says Endurance, and it’s easy to install on your 3D printer or CNC machine. It can work continuously for more than 48 hours and is easy to operate, running on the existing 12V of your 3D printer or router.

A few specifications include:

  • Laser Type: Diode
  • Laser Output: 8000mW ± 15%
  • Focal Length: 2-10 cm (variable)
  • Laser Wavelength: 445nm
  • Lens Type: Crystal glass
  • Operation Time: Tested 48 hours continuous
  • Voltage: 12V DC
  • Amperage: 4-5 Amps
  • Cooling: Air blowing (3 coolers)
  • Mount: Universal

The 8W diode laser is priced at $595, and it’s a quick-to-install tool that allows your 3D printer to have valuable additional capabilities. As 3D printer and laser tool combinations go, this one is more versatile and powerful than many. Endurance also sells 2.1W, 3.5W and 5.6W lasers that can be installed on 3D printers or CNC routers, as well as standalone laser engravers and cutters that are shipped pre-assembled and ready to use. All of Endurance’s lasers are extremely powerful. They can cut 4mm of wood with one pass or 8mm of acrylic with three passes, which outshines a typical 40W Co2 laser.

In addition to its philosophy of DIY, Endurance is a company that places importance on education and outreach as well. Recently, the company launched a charity that involves quarterly trips to children’s health resort centers in Smolensk, one of the poorest regions in Russia. These children are suffering from illnesses such as tuberculosis, and Endurance plans to visit them, bring them gifts and keep them company. If you’d like to learn more and donate to the charity, you can do so here. Endurance also has a program that provides free diode lasers to educators.

If you’d like to try one of Endurance’s lasers yourself, you can get 25% off any 5.6W or 8W laser, or an engraving machine, until January 7th; just use the code New_year_off at checkout. Orders will be shipped within 24 hours; you can order here. (Due to a large number of requests, please resubmit this form if you did not receive a response from Endurance.)

As mentioned above, Endurance’s lasers are easy to use, and extremely detailed instructions are provided, but the company still provides plenty of support for any issues that might arise. There’s also a chatbot on the site, ready to help and answer any questions about lasers, plus multiple videos available that you can watch to learn more about how to work with lasers.
