The CoLiDo Line of 3D Printers Can Reduce Printer Noise by Up to 40%
Ask anyone who has a 3D printer in their home and they often describe the typical noise output from their desktop robots as annoying or downright intrusive. It is a consistent and repetitive noise, similar to the whine of an air conditioning unit mixed with a sort of low-pitched buzzing. It doesn’t quite reach jackhammer levels of noise pollution of course, but it can often be distracting and quite unpleasant, especially if there is more than one printer going. And the sound will often go on for hours and hours depending on the size of the object that is being printed. If the 3D printer is the only appliance or device in the home that makes noise, perhaps it wouldn’t be so distracting, but when combined with other working devices it can add to noise pollution that can range from distracting to downright dangerous.
Noise pollution is potentially much more than just an annoyance, it can actually often lead to all sorts of dangerous health problems. It has been proven that noise pollution contributes to health problems like hypertension, elevated stress levels, hearing loss, tinnitus, and it can even cause sleep deprivation which brings with it a whole new set of health risks. Thankfully 3D printer manufacturers are starting to understand that printers are finding themselves in more homes and small offices than ever before, and are starting to take the problem of cumulative noise pollution more seriously. And it is an even higher priority in regions throughout Asia where the typical office space or living space tends to be smaller than in the West, which is probably why the CoLiDo line of 3D printers is one of the quietest group of printers on the market.
The new Chinese 3D printer manufacturer CoLiDo is a subsidiary of Print-Rite, which is one of the world’s leading printing and consumables manufacturers in Asia, so they have a wealth of experience in making quiet home or small office machines. While they are one of the newer manufacturers on the block, having just released their first printer in 2014, they have quickly risen to prominence on the rapidly expanding Chinese market and CoLiDo is now the highest ranked 3D printer searches on popular Chinese e-commerce platforms like JD.com and Tmall.com.
The CoLiDo 3D printers are exceptionally quiet during operation, only contributing 30 to 40 decibels to background noise. Based on internal testing their 3D printers are up to 40% quieter than other popular printer brands available on the market. That will help significantly reduce overall noise pollution in the home or office more than enough to be noticed. CoLiDo says that their printers are quieter because they specifically engineered them to use higher quality parts and better construction methods, which both contribute to producing less noise. In order to demonstrate how quiet the CoLiDo 3D printers are, the company released a brief video showing the sound level differences.
Here is the CoLiDo 2.0+ sound output compared to other popular Chinese brands of 3D printers:
The entire lineup of CoLiDo 3D printers is quieter than their contemporaries, and all of them will be officially debuting in the US next week at CES 2016. Their line of 3D printers includes the CoLiDo 2.0+ ($1099) which was designed specifically for home use, the more advanced CoLiDo M2020 ($1449) and the larger scale CoLiDo X3045 ($2199) and its massive 11.8″ x 11.8″ x 17.7″ (30 x 30 x 45 cm) build size which was designed specifically for office or industrial use. CoLiDo also offers a full range of affordable 3D printing consumables, including standard PLA, ABS, flexible materials, translucent materials and even wood materials, as well as a glass platform that makes removing finished prints easier.
The CoLiDo team is officially bringing their line of printers to the United States and will be launching them at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in january 6th to the 9th. As part of Print-Rite, CoLiDo has access to their proven world-wide fabrication and distribution network that many of their contemporaries will find difficult to compete with.
