Clear Aligners in Focus: What’s Changing in 2025

(3DPrint.com PRO is available only to subscribers)

Align Technology’s latest earnings showed slower growth for Invisalign, but the story is bigger than one company. The market for clear aligners is changing, and those changes matter for the 3D printing industry.

Clear aligners became one of the biggest success stories for additive manufacturing (AM). After all, every patient needs a custom set. As dental technology expert Todd Ames said a couple of years ago, “the sweet spot for 3D printing is scaled production of custom products, and with 8 billion custom people on the planet, there’s no better fit than the dental industry.” Today, there’s no faster way to make those aligner molds than with 3D printing.

A recent AM Research study, 3D Printing in Dentistry 2025: Market Study & Forecast, shows how central this technology has become to dental care. According to the report, dental AM generated $5.2 billion in revenue last year—about one-third of the entire AM market—and is expected to nearly double to $9.6 billion by 2033.

But not every part of the market moves at the same pace…
