New Scanner Bundle Enables Full Body Medical 3D Scanning Applications

There are plenty of applications for full-body 3D scanning, including finding your exact body fat percentage and measurements, and creating customized clothing, protective gear, and prosthetics. This last example was completed by 3D digitization technology provider SHINING 3D, which just announced that it’s partnering up with TechMed3D to offer an all-in-one solution for human body 3D scanning. SHINING 3D will bring its handheld EinScan H 3D scanner to the collaboration, while TechMed 3D, which provides accurate, user-friendly software measuring solutions for the human body, offers its MSoft software solution.

“We are excited that, together with TechMed, we are now able to offer an all-in-one body scanning solution for medical applications,” Rebecca Khoo, Product Manager – EinScan, for SHINING 3D, stated in a press release. “For us, working with proven software partners not only is enriching the potential of our 3D scanners, but far more helping our customers to continually progress in their 3D digitizing endeavours.”

SHINING 3D holds more than 100 copyrights and over 300 patents related to 3D scanning and digitization technologies, and its EinScan H is said to ensure that human body 3D scanning can be “efficiently and safely” completed. The handheld scanner is based on hybrid structure light technology of LED and invisible infrared light, featuring a large field of view, built-in color camera, 0.25 mm resolution, and speed of up to 1,200,000 points per second.

Having been integrated with white light technology, the EinScan H makes it eye-safe and secure to acquire 3D scan data, and it also features a Body Scan Mode that’s good for applications in orthotics and prosthetics, as the versatile scanner has high movement tolerance and an alignment algorithm set up to process objects that aren’t rigid. The EinScan H weighs less than two pounds, can scan all body parts, including the head, and is said to be easy to operate as well.

By combining the EinScan H scanner with MSoft software in this powerful new bundle, SHINING 3D and TechMed 3D say that patients and clinicians should be able to save on both time and money when conducting full-body 3D scans for a wide variety of applications—including helmets, insoles, wheelchair seats, knee and spinal braces, orthopedic shoes, and more—for the orthotics and prosthetics market.

“MSoft can be combined with the EinScan H scanner for movements support, or to process the files you exported from 3DsizeMe or My3DsizeMe,” the SHINING 3D website states. “It is designed to work with a vast majority of human body parts, from head to toe.”

The MSoft software was designed specifically for rapid 3D human body scans, and is compatible with multiple file types, such as STL, PLY, OBJ, and others. TechMed 3D explains that clinical users can easily get watertight, ready-to-use files, which can then be modified, carved, designed, 3D printed, fitted, and exported. By using the software in tandem with the EinScan H, clinicians can enjoy a real-time view of what they’re scanning in MSoft, thanks to the scanner’s built-in camera. MSoft also has an ergonomic compare module, which allows users to show patients scans from before and after their orthosis so they have a better idea of their own correction.

“At Techmed 3D, we are impressed to see the evolution of the products that Shining 3D can bring to market,” said Michel Babin, the Founder and CEO of TechMed 3D. “The Einscan H, by its ease of use and its speed, allows us to expand our digitization offer and access to other growth markets.”

The two companies hope that by collaborating and pairing their individual solutions, they can offer a powerful tool for clinicians and other professionals around the world looking to adopt 3D digitization.
