“M3D’s Micro 3D printer was an unprecedented success on Kickstarter last year, raising more than $3.4 million from almost 12,000 backers,” says 3DShare founder and CEO Mark Joseph. “So it made lots of sense that when we were looking to partner with a 3D Printer company for a competition, M3D was the obvious choice! The Micro is intended to be a plug and play 3D printer, so simple, useful designs were the aim for this competition. We wanted to see the best designs that are both simple and fast to print. We looked at usefulness, stylishness, and general creativity when crowning a winner.”
In all, there were over 50 designs submitted as entries into this unique contest, but only one of them could be chosen as a winner. We are happy to announce that the winner, as voted on by the teams at 3DShare, 3DPrint.com and M3D, is user Tuto Solid, Jhon Cuenca, with the Rabbit Necklace!
“Speed and simplicity were key here, as this is what the Micro has become famous for,” says Joseph. “Some incredible designs were demonstrated once again, and the out-of-the-box thinking for the 3D designers really shined through.”
Several of the designs were very intuitive and even more impressive than the winning design, but they did not fall into the category being “simple enough” to be considered potential nominees. As for the winner, he will be taking home a Micro 3D Printer in the color of his choosing (black, blue, green or orange), and the design will be entered into the annual “Design of the Year” award on 3DShare.
“The judges were really impressed with the high standard of design and levels of creativity. Also highly commended were this super useful Pill Box and this Multi Purpose Instant Pot,” Joseph tells us.
Stay tuned for more design challenges from 3DShare in the future. Let us know what you think about the winning design in the M3D/3DShare Design Competition forum thread on 3DPB.com.
