CGTrader is a website that allows sharing of 3D models to modify, download, or print with a service such as 3D Hubs, or on your own machine. For the past few months they have provided us with a Top Ten list that includes “Top Downloaded” and “Top Viewed” 3D models. The following is the month of March’s list of Top Downloaded and Top Viewed 3D Printable Models, featuring diverse designs like a hand-cranked power generator, a few Star Wars inspired items, and jewelry. Check them all out below:
Top Downloaded 3D Printable Models
1. The Hand-Cranked Power Generator
EvenErichsen’s working power generator is hand-cranked with a rotor that spins up to 4000 rpms, produces about 40 volts with no load, and produces approximately 15 watts. So if this looks like a project you’d like to take on, you are in good company since it is the top downloaded model this past month.
2. Full Scale Stormtrooper Helmet Wearable
Who doesn’t want a Stormtrooper helmet to add to their collection of 3D printed Star Wars themed items? Well, Geoffro has provided free downloadable files for a full scale helmet that has 16 printable parts for the helmet and accessories. There’s also eye comforters that can be lined with padding, and separate glass — but you can also use old sunglass lenses. The whole helmet takes several hours to print and the final product stands at 24 x 19 x 33 cm.
3. Triceratops FREE printable
Once you are done printing your Stormtrooper helmet, you can indulge in another common childhood fascination: dinosaurs. The third most commonly downloaded model for the month of March is this free STL file that is formatted, checked, and fixed with NETFABB. The Triceratops model is available from fabalar.
4. Pen or Pencil Holder
The next most downloaded model is one that can be used daily, and it does a good job of conjuring up nature if you are stuck inside at your desk. Beeverycreative gives us this pen or pencil holder just in time for Spring. Resembling a honeycomb, it could make a fine addition to your home or workplace desktop.
5. One Spool of Natural PLA
If you are wondering what all can be printed with one natural spool of PLA then you aren’t alone. It appears that many items can be printed, and since it’s on the list of top downloaded models, plenty of people have printed them as well. Top Viewed 3D Printable Models
1. Millennium Falcon VII
May the 4th Be with You! Well, it’s coming up at least and Geoffro’s Millennium Falcon VII is the top most viewed printable CGTrader model for the month of March. This model can be printed at 0% infill, 0.2mm @ about 60ms feed. You will want to get it started soon if you would like it to be printed by May the 4th since it’s a slow print and takes several hours to complete.
2. Ring for Women’s 7
Perhaps this ruby ring made by olegdionis is in second place in March’s top viewed printable models because people are considering it for Mother’s Day. It would make a perfect gift since it’s uniquely crafted, and a great conversation piece since it’s 3D printed. It is a size 7, and 16.75 mm with its gem heart 15 x 8 mm. According to its designer, the model is ready for prototyping in CNC and 3D printing.
3. Bracelet — Voronoi Style
It appears jewelry was a hot item in March, and these four different styled bracelets are based on the Voronoi mathematical diagram that separates a partition into regions . Style A is the roughest, while styles B-D are printed in a finer mesh designed by roman_hegglin. Separate STL files can be downloaded here for each bracelet.
4. Place de la Republique in Paris
Printed without supports, this printed Parisian replica of the statue reminds me of all the models in February’s CGTrader review that featured Parisian-themed designs from Le FabShop. There are some big Paris fans out there, that’s for sure, as we can see by the great interest shown in these models in the past few months.
5. Customizable Furniture Minis
If you are the type of person who needs to prepare before you move into a new house, then this final top viewed selection is for you. This customizable furniture mini set allows you to download STL files and customize tables, beds, bookcases, desks, and chairs in your own furniture dimensions or even check out the selections based on standard bed sizes and IKEA book cases — for your convenience. Much more fun than moving itself!
