Many of my classmates were able to launch tremendous careers at some of today’s top tech companies after taking on an internship within the field of web development. I myself sort of created my own creditless internship by launching my own web company.
Internships are incredible opportunities for students, not only because of the course credit they provide, but the connections, experience, and oftentimes full-time employment that they eventually lead to. Here we are a decade removed from my own graduation and 3D printing, robotics, and biotech applications are the hot topics for today’s ambitious undergrads. Naturally students are seeking out internships in these fields. Although the internship opportunities within the 3D printing space may be somewhat scarce, this is changing as the industry grows.
In fact, today MakerBot, one of the world’s leaders in consumer-targeted 3D printers, has announced the launch of the 2015 MakerBot Summer Intern Program. As one of New York’s fastest-growing tech companies, expanding from just 3 employees in 2009 to over 600 today, MakerBot would be the perfect company for motivated and driven students to get their foot in the door of a 3D printing career.

We see 3D printing as a tool that is necessary to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow, and our interns get the unique opportunity to experience and learn about the fast-growing 3D printing market firsthand.”
There are internship positions available in multiple areas within the company. The positions include those dealing with production, manufacturing, sales, marketing, public relations, engineering, software, and business development. All internships are paid, and will begin with an orientation starting June 15, 2015, running until August 14, 2015. Interns will interact with employees as well as executives within the company on a daily basis, setting themselves up for future employment in a tech-related field, or even 3D printing. Many past interns with MakerBot have either returned to the company after college, or landed coveted jobs with other top technology companies.
