In 3D Printing News Briefs today, we’ve got some business and materials news to share. ASTM International has announced five female board nominees, and cycling brand fizik is working with Carbon to make a 3D printed bike saddle. Moving on, VBN Components will exhibit its 3D printed cemented carbide at the upcoming EMO Hannover, and finally, Custom Color 3D Printing is now offering full-color HP Jet Fusion technology.
ASTM International Announces Women as Nominees
The six board nominees are:
- Francine Bovard, senior technical specialist with Arconic
- Bonnie McWade-Furtado, associate research and development scientist at Cabot Corp.
- Carol Pollack-Nelson, PhD, owner of Independent Safety Consulting LLC
- Casandra W. Robinson, physical scientist at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
- Dalia Yarom, director of the standardization division at the Standards Institution of Israel (SII)
- Michael J. Brisson, technical advisor at the Savannah River National Laboratory
fizik and Carbon Partnering to 3D Print Bike Saddle
“We’re proud to partner with fizik to unlock their unique product vision to push the limits of saddle design. fizik used the Carbon Lattice Engine to match optimized response profiles based on rider feedback and create a digitally tuned lattice geometry for the Adaptive — enabling differentiation based on their unique product vision and design,” said Erika Berg, Head of Application Development at Carbon.
The first digitally printed Adaptive bike saddles will be based on fizik’s carbon fiber Versus Evo 00 platform.
VBN Components Exhibiting 3D Printed Cemented Carbide
Swedish company VBN Components celebrated its 10th anniversary last October, and promised “a revolution in material development.” Not long after, the company made good on its word by releasing the patented hard metal Vibenite 480, a new type of cemented carbide that combines high heat resistance and toughness. Vibenite 480 is based on metal powder produced through industrial gas atomization, and allows for the EBM fabrication of components such as rock drills and gear hobs. Now, VBN Components is planning to showcase this unique material at the EMO Hannover fair, which takes place September 16-21.
“EMO Hannover is the perfect event to showcase our technology,” said Ulrik Beste, CTO and one of the founders of VBN Components. “We will meet with experts in the metalworking field from different parts of the world to discuss how our 3D printed cemented carbide can improve performance in components and overall production.”
The EMO website has highlighted Vibenite 480 as one of the fair’s most important new technologies, and VBN will give two expert talks on the material at the event. Visitors can see Vibenite 480 for themselves at the EMO fair in Hannover in the Additive Manufacturing Circle, Hall 9.
