Materialise Reveals Updated Laser Sintering Features for Magics21 Software Suite

As additive manufacturing technology becomes increasingly useful for a growing number of industries and applications, it’s critical that 3D printing solutions providers are able to offer versatile and wide-reaching services from every possible angle. Very few have done this as well as the Belgium-based company Materialise, which has placed itself on the forefront of innovation when it comes to both 3D printing software and hardware services.

Last month, during the TCT Show in Birmingham, UK, Materialise announced the release of an enhanced version of their Magics 3D Print Suite, a software package designed to help companies streamline the entire 3D printing workflow process. Just prior to that, the company introduced their new software to a handful of companies through the Magics Beta Validation Program, ensuring that their industry-leading 3D data preparation software was ready to be utilized by the public. Now, in preparation for the official launch of Materialise Magics21, the 3D printing service provider is showing off the upgraded Laser Sintering features that their customers can expect to find in the enhanced software suite.

The most glaring upgrade made by Materialise is to their Sinter Module, which provides a complete toolbox for all Laser Sintering purposes. Knowing that powder utilized with this advanced printing technology is generally expensive, Materialise developed this module to optimize the nesting of parts and reduce the height of the build platform, which will help lead to savings in materials and production time. Their powerful multi-core nesting algorithms help users automatically nest their parts, eliminating hours of manual work. The module also enables users to nest parts in an already running machine, prevent parts from interlocking with one another, and protect fragile objects with a crate.

Materialise Magics21 Sinter Module

Though the previous versions of the Materialise Magics Sinter Module provided users the ability to nest hundreds of parts in a matter of minutes, the newest software aims to increase the quality of prints by eliminating all possibility of machine error. Additionally, the slice distribution graph function will give customers full control of the entire build process. Magics21 includes a tool that allows for in-depth analysis of the surface area for each layer and distribution within the build. Users will also be able to visualize the graph for both selected parts, as well as the complete build platform.

Perhaps these upgrades don’t seem too revolutionary or exciting to the average eye, but for companies utilizing Laser Sintering technology, optimizing the way parts are nested will have a major impact on production process. Not only will Magics21 users have more build platform space to print more parts at once, they will also produce these parts faster and with less powder material, saving them time and expenses. By offering full manual control over the nesting process, these businesses will be able to rotate and angle parts how they see fit.

Materialise will officially launch Magics21 at the upcoming 3D printing conference formnext, which is taking place in Frankfurt from November 15 to 18.
