Ilios Firmware Updates: Beam 3D Printer & HD Kit for Research Users Now Enjoy Greater Speed & Accuracy

When you are selling a product—and especially in the 3D printing industry—success is going to be based on a variety of constants, but the top priority is generally how well you are meeting the customer’s needs. And no one does this better than someone who has created software or hardware motivated by their own creative and technical requirements, harkening back to the days of Chuck Hull and the first 3D printer. If you are dedicated enough to make a 3D printer in order to work on your own personal projects, that’s impressive, and most likely something others will benefit from as well. And so has been the history of Ilios 3D, made up of a small company of makers hailing from the unlikely and rather exotic locale of Cyprus.

Originally 3D printing for their own needs, the company has grown to offer a lineup of machines and a continual refining of the products and software for their users. After just releasing the compact Ilios Beam 3D printer several months ago along with a very recent host of updates and tweaks to their Ilios 3D Suite software, the company is now also paying some extra attention to the needs of their users with firmware updates to the Ilios HD Kit for Research, meant for prototyping and experimentation, and the refinements for the folding Ilios Beam, very similar to the Ilios Ray 3D printer, but in a smaller package.

Much attention to development in recent months means that the company has refined the print cycle, and users will see that the laser mechanism, printing with pixel-by-pixel accuracy, is now offering very high speed performance.

“Essentially we managed to increase the print speed almost by four times by analyzing each pixel on each layer without actually deteriorating each layer information–and that is done at a very fast pace for layers of up to 7045 x 4960 pixels,” company founder and CEO Demetris Ruslan Zavorotnitsienko told 3DPrint.com. “We managed to use a very affordable laser setup and boost its speed to only move when needed without reverting to older techniques like G-Code which is optimized for vector manipulation.”

This means: dramatic print speed, with models drawn pixel by pixel from the Ilios 3D Suite. Ilios states that you can look forward to resolutions of 3000 x 2000 per layer at just the minimum settings. There’s no sacrifice of detail at higher speeds, or for larger prints.

“Each layer is being analyzed and translated to mechanical highly accurate X and Y axis of the laser assembly, providing that 10 – 20 micro resolution through the rigid Ball Bearing metal parts all Ilios Printers are known for,” says Zavorotnitsienko. “This is something that is very difficult to achieve otherwise unless accuracy parts are used and are coupled with fast and dynamic code.”

“Those who shall be receiving their Ilios Beam should already benefit from these alterations,” says Zavorotnitsienko.

A special note to those purchasing the folding Ilios Beam 3D printer: prices will increase after July 15^th when first orders ship and new components arrive causing a rise in price, which Ilios promises will not be dramatic.
