Dentists and dental labs have increasingly been adopting 3D printing as a means for fabricating a wide array of dental products. The rapid fabrication of these products, right in the dentist’s office or dental lab enables patients to get what they need incredibly fast, and the Objet30 Dental Prime 3D Printer continues Stratasys’ success within this space. The machine, which Stratasys claims they created to be both affordable and high quality, allows some of the smaller dental labs to take advantage of this rapidly progressing technology for the creation of dental models as well as appliances.
“The introduction of the compact, versatile Objet30 Dental Prime 3D Printer continues Stratasys’ commitment to providing a variety of solutions to meet the different needs of dental and orthodontic labs, small and large. This addition to our entry-level desktop family brings superior-quality 3D printing available to all dental labs who want to provide competitive digital dentistry services to their clients,” said Steffen Mueller, General Manager, Dental Solutions at Stratasys.
While the printer has many uses, Stratasys has listed a number of the possible applications which best suit the machine within the dental space. They are as follows:
- Creation of crown and bridge models
- Manufacturing of clear aligners
- Creation of realistic looking veneer try-ins
- Printing of casting patterns for the eventual creation of removable partial dentures
- Creation of oral surgical guides
- Manufacturing of diagnostic wax-ups
The Dental Prime allows users to choose between two different modes; one for high speed 3D printing, which fabricates objects at a 28 micron layer thickness, and one for high quality fabrication, at slower speeds, which prints at a more precise 16 micron layer height. These two separate modes will allow dentists and lab technicians to get the best out of both worlds, dependent on what specific application they are using the printer for. Below you will find some of the machine’s general specifications:
- Printer Size: 82.5 x 62 x 59 cm
- Build Envelope: 300 x 200 x 100 mm
- Print Resolution: X-axis: 600 dpi: Y-axis: 600 dpi; Z-axis: 1600 dpi
