Seeing God Through 3D Printing — Proven Reality

3dps logoWell, you won’t literally see God, but 3D Proven Systems wants to bring you as close as possible through a combination of 3D printing, virtual and augmented realities, and a specific set of content. Based on the concept that ideas and symbols are central parts of the way that our brain functions, they are working to integrate those symbols in a more meaningful way into the 3D world in which we live. And they have turned to Kickstarter to pull together the funding that they need in order to take their vision from idea to public platform. They call their project Proven Reality and explained it to potential donors:

“We are creating an experience, a new way to communicate, based on 3D technology. Each cutting edge piece of this project has been used for different purposes by others, but no one has ever combined them like we are. Proven Reality is powerful, because it relies on technology you likely use every day. Your phone and tablet can be so much more than they already are. Proven Reality delivers a meaningful and uplifting message through the Bible using IOS or Android Devices.”

What this means in a concrete sense is that they are offering a three-prong approach to feeling a stronger connection to the Christian faith through their proposed products. The first branch of their offerings is comprised of physical objects that can be worn or shared with others, such as a cross or a heart. The second branch of their offering is an augmented reality app that allows you to interact with those 3D printed items in a more in depth manner. Finally, they have developed a virtual reality app that is designed to give you the experience of walking with Jesus when viewed through their Proven cardboard viewer.

The team is developing these offerings in the hopes that they will provide people with more meaningful ways to interact with the technology that surrounds us all. Their intent is to spread the word of the Bible through these deliverables and to help those of faith to find new ways to interact with the ideas and tenets of those beliefs.

They described themselves and their efforts through their Kickstarter campaign:

“Proven Reality is faith based, creating a new reality to communicate the stories of the Bible like never before. We’re starting with one [story], but we know this will grow with your support. Just like Felipe says in our video, we want to make Christ known, and to use 3D technology as the means to do it. Even if that’s not a message you personally connect with, the structure of Proven Reality can be applied to any idea, interest, or message: creating an array of new realities for any number of purposes.”

The campaign has, so far, only received two pledges, but is in its infancy with 42 more days to go until September 30th in order to reach their goal of $100,000. The 3D printed objects will easily appeal to those wishing to demonstrate their connection to this faith, the augmented reality app is somewhat less appealing because of its limited functionality and the relatively coarse nature of its graphics. It is difficult to evaluate the virtual reality portion of the project with the information that is provided.

This group of young entrepreneurs is trying not to narrow their audience by explaining the relationship their project could have to ideas of any genre. Time will tell if others see in it that same promise.
