The new itSeez3D app will use the 3D cameras native to Intel devices using the RealSense technology to capture realistic 3D models of people or real world objects. A preview of the 3D model will be generated in less than a minute while the full resolution model will be fully rendered in the cloud. The app allows users to automatically export their completed 3D models directly to Sketchfab or save them to the user’s desktop as a .ply, .obj or .wrl formatted object. The app will also send a completed 3D model directly to a waiting 3D printer, or even allow users to share their 3D models on social media.
“Intel RealSense technology enables mobile devices to solve problems that seemed incredibly hard even recently. The itSeez3D mission is to bring 3D scanning to consumers and we are excited to see Intel RealSense technology empowering us to do so. itSeez3D for Intel RealSense technology builds a platform that will facilitate many exciting applications,” said itSeez3D CEO Victor Erukhimov.
“We want to make mobile devices understand the world in 3D. itSeez3D’s ability to create 3D models is a great example of a usage that can be enabled by the Intel RealSense platform,” said vice president and general manager for Intel’s Perceptual Computing division Dr. Achin Bhowmik.
As a spin-off company of Itseez, a computer software company that develops vision-based programs for digital cameras, video surveillance and robotics, itSeez3D was created to focus exclusively on 3D scanning and modeling products. Their first scanning application for iPad and the Structure Sensor back in 2014 quickly became one of the leading scanner solutions in its class. Both the original itSeez3D and the new Intel-based app are ideal for both professional and consumer use.
The application will be available to the public as soon as the Intel’s Windows 10-enabled devices that will include a RealSense Camera are released to the public. However interested users can get an early look at it when when the itSeez3D app is showcased at the Intel RealSense pavilion during the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, CA on August 18-20.
