Hearthstone Card of Kripparrian Gains Form Through 3D Printing

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an online card game that was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released in March of 2014. It has since gained a significant following, with a total of 30 million registered accounts, and a variety of personalities have arisen as its heroes – the stars of the online gaming community. One of those rising stars is Octavian Morosan whose gaming name is Kripparrian.

Kripparrian streams Hearthstone events on his Twitch and Youtube channels with many of his videos having over one million views. In addition, he was one of three players invited by Blizzard Entertainment to participate in the Hearthstone Innkeeper’s Invitational tournament where he won the first two rounds handily and only with great difficulty was he defeated in the final round.

His avatar is therefore one that is familiar to aficionados of the game and so when Hearthstone enthusiasts Ricardo Salomao and Simone Fontana decided to pay him tribute, they wanted to make his avatar a central part of that homage. The London based design team heads a studio called 3DNA (yes, pun intended) that they formed after becoming friends at the MyMiniFactory academy. Their work has made headlines before with products such as a 3D printed gear-filled heart that they created for Mother’s day.

The card that they have created is based on the cards used in play in Hearthstone and contains a 3D printed version of Kripparrian’s avatar. The caption reads “Become the target of all random effects” and is true to the game’s style on both the front and back of the card. In a youtube video of their own, the duo explained their process:

“We designed this in two different software. We decided to split the job so as to create it more quickly. I designed the card in Rhino 3D and Ricardo designed the figure and details on Z-Brush. We then merged these together, split the card in half…then Catarina, one of the girls in the post-processing room, did her work which was so amazing.”

In addition to showcasing the card, you can also download it to print your own from their My Mini Factory page. The pair has also created a 3D printed hearthstone card for gamer Yong Woo and offers to create a card for any other gamers who may find themselves filled with envy. Salamao and Fontana have created a time lapse video of the card’s creation and a charming video describing their process, which can be seen below.

So, I guess we finally have a definitive answer to the question: what do you get someone who already has everything?

Why, a 3D printed Kripparrian card, of course!  Let us know if you have download and printed this model or purchased one.  Discuss in the 3D Printed Hearthstone Card forum thread on 3DPB.com.
