Each month we review the most downloaded 3D printable models from Sketchfab — a site with over 200,000 models to choose from! This month there is quite the variety on this website that bills itself as “the place to be for 3D,” including: a Hillary Clinton action figure, a model of the New Horizons spacecraft, a Game of Thrones-themed iPhone case, and a hydroponics garden container. But that’s not all so read on to check out all of the top 3D printable models for the month of July!
This action figure began as an FCTRY Kickstarter campaign that successfully raised almost $27,000 to bring this action figure to life for both Hillary fans and non-fans alike. The figure has its own dedicated website also, where you can order it pre-made for $14.99. And of course, you can always download it for free off Sketchfab’s website too. You can have your very own action figure of the person who may in fact become the first female President of the United States!
For space geeks, NASA/John Hopkins University of Applied Physics/Southwest Research Institute and David Napolillo brings us a printable model of the New Horizons spacecraft, which was launched in 2006. This very well known “interplanetary space probe” recently flew past Pluto and its moons on July 14, 2015: it flew about 7,800 miles above Pluto’s surface! There are many Lego-related 3D printable models out there. This one from “3dprinterstore5” is special, because it lets you mount the new GoPro HERO4 Session camera to anything you build with Legos. This newly released camera is making waves for being small and versatile for photos or video, and this model is meant as a mount for the camera. Simple as that!
Virtualgeo prepared this box with lid for Itineraries in East Venice (I’VE) which is an organization involved in river tourism. And Venice has plenty of waterways! Its funky design and bright blue color may catch your eye, but its functional size with sturdy lid might just keep your attention on this model!
iPhone 4 Case| Game of Thrones
The series Game of Thrones has its fan-base to be sure, so it’s no surprise that designer “jvouillon” came up with a top Sketchfab design in this iPhone case. He expresses some regret that it may be a little too tight, and difficult to remove, but most Game of Thrones fans could overlook this small flaw. It’s Game of Thrones, after all! Print one today if you miss the show!
This is exactly what it looks like, a 3D printable model of the most industrious insect — the ant. Brazilian designer Fernando H.C. Menezes took on quite a design project here, since he sought to make what looks like an anatomically accurate replica of this well-studied and revered insect. He doesn’t say much about how it prints, so you’ll have to figure that stuff out on your own. Great as a science project, or just because you love those darn little critters.
Continuing on with the theme of insects and animals, Taiwanese designer “arkuo” brings us a sleek and minimalist deer design that has nowhere near the design detail as the previous ant model. Instead, this simple design presents a deer, standing proudly with its head held high. This model will capture the attention of wildlife enthusiasts, or even those who want to get a jumpstart on all of their 3D printing winter holiday projects. Print eight out and you have enough to pull Santa’s sleigh!
If you look online, there are many variations of Bubble Bots — robots that look as if they are made up of bubbles. This Bubble Bot looks lots like a marshmallow creature, too, or a variation of Baymax from the Disney movie Big Hero 6. There’s always room for a new take on the robot, isn’t there? This one, from “drumslave,” is said to be inspired by a robot named ZAMAK, including his menacing claw-like pinchers, and all!
Container– 3Dponics Herb Garden
3Dponics is onto an idea whose time has come: easier-to-print and simpler-to-use hydroponics equipment! We’ve loved following the idea, and the group has uploaded several designs for hydroponics use, including the herb garden container featured here, which is designed to fit into small places. Also, another cool feature is that the container is designed so extra solution can drain from one part of the container to another –wasting nothing. The container is also stackable so you can print several and create a taller vertical garden in your smaller space. Excellent idea!
