Based in Mumbai, India, MaherSoft is a 3D printer manufacturing startup, and their team includes electronics, firmware, mechanical, software, and draft engineers.
Mohammed Khorakiwala, the CEO and Founder of MaherSoft, says that over the past two years his company has “worked in stealth mode” to build an industrial-grade 3D printer, the Indie.
A software engineer by degree–and entrepreneur at heart–Khorakiwala says the Indie combines design, aesthetics, usability, repeatability, and value.
“When I started the company, I had bought one of the most well known desktop 3D Printers and was printing parts and selling them,” Khorakiwala says. “That 3D printer was not at all reliable. This forced us into building our own, very reliable, 3D printer.”
He says that one major consideration was a requirement to build a dual nozzle printer. He says the dual nozzle design was critical for its ability to print simultaneous support structures. The Indie uses HIPS as support material and ABS as the main build material.
The dual nozzle design also allows the device to print with two colors with removable support structures.
The Indie features a build volume of 11″ x 8.5″ x 6″, a “print recovery” function, Z-axis precision to .075mm, X- and Y-axis precision to 0.4mm, a removable build plate, electrical failure 
According to Khorakiwala, his team has spent the last four years developing “deep domain expertise in 3D printing,” and their focus on materials science, electronics, and software has led to a pair of product lines: the consumer-grade Max One and Max Two and the industrial-grade Indie.
The company’s lab extensively uses 3D printed parts to test their designs and build production-ready parts, notes Khorakiwala. The Indie 3D printer has been tested for 1500+ hours of test prints to assure the machine’s print quality, layer adhesion, repeatability, and ease of use.
As an example, Khorakiwala says his company used the Indie to create a seat belt print for a customer which saved them nearly $1000 in mold-making costs, and the machine has been used to build parts with a wall thickness of less than 2mm.
Khorakiwala says the real key to the Indie is reliability.
“To increase reliability in the motion, we have an active feedback system,” he says. “This has enabled our machine to work non-stop for more than 50+hours continuously.”
