THRE3D Launches 3D Printing Contest – RepYourCity Street Art Challenge

We all love 3D printing contests, right? They provide us a chance to show off our creativity and design skills, and hopefully walk away with a prize as well as some deserved recognition. 3D printing has been spreading across the world like a wildfire that can jump oceans. From large metropolitan areas, to small cities and towns across nearly every nation, 3D printers are invading. What better way to utilize 3D printing, then through a contest that brings a bit of recognition to one’s own home town?

That’s just what THRE3D.com is doing with their RepYourCity Street Art Challenge. The challenge, which run from now until Sunday, July 6th, asks participants to come up with their own creative design which utilizes 3D printing in some way, to create a piece of street art that ties into one’s hometown.

“Street artists like Banksy and Shepard Fairey combined their designs with the environment and created unique art with simple remedies,” states the contest page. “Imagine the possibilities that 3D printing could give to these artists!  With “RepYourCity” we invite you to represent your city and show the unlimited possibilities of 3D Printing.”

Participants are asked to not only 3D print an object representing their hometown, but to also photograph that object with a backdrop which represents their hometown as well. The rules are quite simple, and anyone can participate.

  1. Represent your city with a 3D print
  2. Take a picture of that 3D printed object in a fitting location
  3. Upload that picture to Instagram or THRE3D.com (All entries must be submitted by July 6th)

There will be three winners chosen by THRE3D, and $225 in store credit will be split among those three winners. For those who are unware, THRE3D.com is a 3D printing portal which sells filament, 3D printers, and 3D printing accessories, while also being a repository for interesting 3D designs.
