“Every single part of the Bugatti was printed using material in different colors, so that model didn’t have to be painted after printing,” HBOT 3D tells 3DPrint.com. “The only thing needed to be done was assembly of printed parts. The models of this kind are a valuable example of the way that FDM 3D printing technology may help many automotive companies in presenting their concept cars.”
The company began designing this incredible 3D printed model by finding a surface mesh model online. All of the parts were broken down and modified in order to print nicely on an HBOT 3D printer. A total of 80-100 hours were spent on modeling the parts down to their intricate details. In all it was broken down into 60 different 3D printable parts, which took a total of about 300 hours to completely print. The project was completed from start to finish in just 14 days, and it features parts as small as 9mm in diameter (rear reflector), to parts as large as 250mm in length.
The 1:8 scale Bugatti Veyron measures 570mm long, and features 6 different colors of filament. Because of the great variety of different filament colors, no post processing other than the removal of support material and assembly was required.
HBOT 3D has made the model available for free download so that anyone with a 3D printer, or access to one, can 3D print this incredible model car. They tell us that this is just the beginning though, as they plan to iterate upon the design even further in the near future.
“The model is going to be evaluated and internal parts like seats, steering wheel etc. will be modeled to show the whole functional model,” HBOT 3D tells us. “You will be able to see the interior by opening the windows and the roof. There is also a plan to prepare the models of the wheels so that they will allow for the use of regular stock bearings.”
HBOT 3D was founded nearly two years ago, and their FFF/FDM-based 3D printer provides users with a 300 x 300 x 300 mm build volume that is able print in a plethora of material options, including ABS, PLA, wood filaments, HIPS, and glassbend. More details can be seen on their website.
