“Guns.” The very word makes some people cringe, and crawl into a cave, while it makes others spring up with enthusiasm. The process of 3D printing a gun, does the same thing, only at a much more intense level. We have seen our share of 3D printed guns already, made of both metals and plastics. In the meantime, probably the most intense debate around 3D printing has been taking place around the 3D printing of these often lethal weapons.
After a little research on our part, we determined that the gun’s creator was a man named Sam Logan. The airsoft gun was printed, not for any particular use, but rather because Logan felt that, “People would print more awesome things if there were more awesome things to print.”
He explained his creative thought process further,
“So I put two and two together and started designing this printable airsoft gun. It’s the start of many designs I hope to produce for people who really want more than just a vase from their printers. I hope it will inspire you to get your creative mind in gear and contribute some awesome designs for a 3D printable future!”
Logan, like many in the industry, feels that the potential for 3D printing is sky high, while the actual work being done by designers may be lacking. His work is anything but “lacking,” as you will see in the video below:
