Have you ever looked at an intricately designed toy or a detailed coffee mug, and wondered how many germs were hiding in those hard-to-get-to places where you can’t squeeze a sponge in or even dig at with a fingernail? That’s enough to ruin relaxation at play time or coffee time, and when it comes to 3D printing and all the layers involved, there are plenty of places for Joe Germ to hide. Our only comment for the Purement filament team is, “what took you so long?”
Purement is a new premium antimicrobial filament produced by South Korea’s Books & Kimchi (BnK)–a company that realizes how important it is to integrate 3D printing into the educational system, but with safety. Schools are, as we all know, challenged enough by the everyday cold and flu germs which seem to circulate on a never-ending basis. With Purement, germs are forced out. The material has been certified by the SIAA, antimicrobial registered by the FDA and the ROHS Test, who verified ‘it contains no harmful organic substances and is an eco-friendly product that has consistent anti-bacterial effects.’
Designers may enter from anywhere around the globe, and will retain ownership of designs, but remember–once it’s printed, the .stl file will be available for the entire world to download.
The people will decide the fate of your design, so keep your audience in mind, as the owner of the design with the most downloads from MyMiniFactory will be the one dancing the victory jig. It’s recommended that you design something smart, while still aiming for beauty, functionality, and appeal. You may enter as many times as you like, but make sure to submit designs with multiple parts as .stl files with instructions as to how they connect together.
To enter your design:
Simply upload your 3D design file by pressing the ‘upload’ button. Your design must be 3D printable within a build volume of 18 x 18 x 18 cm. Don’t forget to include any special instructions.
The contest opened on May 14th and you have up until June 1st to submit as many designs as you’d like. Voting will take place on June 8th, with a winner being decided on June 29th.
Is this a contest you are interested in entering? Discuss your thoughts on both the contest and this new anti-bacterial filament in the Purement 3D Design Contest forum thread over at 3DPB.com.
