Unlike other 3D file marketplaces, 3DShare looks to grow based on its community of users. For this reason, we have decided to bring 3DShare under our wing. 3DPrint.com announces today that we have become co-owners of the 3DShare marketplace and will be making use of ideas and feedback from the community, both here and at our 3DPB forum, to help develop what the 3DShare team has previously called a symbiotic 3D printing community. The community ethos of both platforms is why a partnership was a natural progression.
“We couldn’t be happier to be teaming with Eddie, Brian Krassenstein and the rest of the team at 3DPrint.com,” explained 3DShare Co-founder, Mark Joseph. “We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with one of the leading brands in the 3D printing world.”
For those who have never visited this site before, 3DShare allows users to share their designs, either for free or at the standard rate of 99c. By allowing users to share their files for free we can form a legitimate sharing community of original designs. In order to incentivize designers to build a community that makes files available to all at an affordable cost, there is also the option to share files at the price of 99c. This means that popular downloads have the potential to make the designers a lot of money for their hard work! They also have a NSFW ‘Anything Goes’ section which looks to enable the most creative uses for 3D printing without restriction. As you can see, imaginations are running wild already.
Since their launch less than a month ago, the vast majority of designs uploaded have been in the 99c price range, and listed on 3DShare exclusively. They are also currently putting $5 into the account of every new sign up, no strings attached – meaning you can jump start the rewards for the early adopter designers. So go check it out and upload your own files, or download the coolest designs you can find.
We have lots of ideas for the development of the platform, from customization, to shops and requests. Most of all, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the partnership. You can follow the development of 3DShare on their Twitter, Facebook or Google+ pages. What would you like to see in this space? Tell us your thoughts in the 3DShare Forum over at 3DPB.com.
